This is just a cash grab on Pokemon Go. They STILL don't have features in that game they promised months upon months ago like battles and trading. This is their compromise. Want to know how I know? Because of this:

Also, they announced it's not a remake, just takes place in Kanto.

Maybe “remake” was the wrong word but it’s definitly going to have more similarities with Yellow than just taking place in Kanto with this quote and the following image.

“Let’s Go! Pikachu and Let’s Go! Eevee are kind of inspired and based on Pokémon Yellow version,” Masuda told us. “They had added elements from the animated series, like Team Rocket and the characters that appeared in the animated series.

Gaming culture is so frustrating. This looks cool, and if it's not what you wanted it seems like you'll be getting it next year? The negativity and entitlement surrounding these announcements are a bummer tbh

I think it’s the best of three worlds
    1) I get to experience Kanto in HD
    2) I get to enjoy Pokémon Go longer
    3) I get a fresh and original game next year

how so? games are for fun and there is a lot of toxicity surrounding them that I've never understood. It'd be one thing if this was the only thing you were getting from a beloved franchise but there's a pretty strong promise that a year from now there will be a new, entirely unique entry to the series that I didn't expect to see til next year anyways. It'll likely be amazing and there is never a shortage of wonderful games to play until then

I just think unrealistic expectations take the fun out of a great medium and we shouldn't feel entitled enough to warrant some of the reactions I've seen

I for one and hyped to play these lite games and excited to see what the real thing is when it drops

Obviously will need to see more info first but I doubt I’ll pay $80 for that.

    IGN released some more information

    • Kanto is “very similar” to the Kanto in Yellow
    • Pokémon will be seen roaming the world in real time instead of randomly popping up
    • Trainer battles will be familiar to the trainer battles in mainline games.
    • Leveling up Pokémon will be done through gaining XP in trainer battles and catching wild pokémon (there will be more ways announced soon).
    • You will only be able to send your Pokémon from the Go mobile game after you’ve reached a certain point in Let’s Go. Only the original 151 and Aloan forms will be transferable and they will arrive in the Let’s Go Ranch where you will need to catch them again. Shiny Pokémon in Go will remain shiny in Let’s Go (event Pokémon such as Raichu and Pikachu with birthday hats will not be transferable as they are special for Go). Once a Pokémon is sent to Let’s Go, it will not be able to go back to Go.
    • You will “carry” your Pokémon box in Let’s Go so that you can deposit/withdrawal Pokémon anywhere.
    • HMs will not be featured in the game.
    • You can ride on the backs of larger Pokémon if you choose them to be your partner Pokémon and have them follow you.
    • Trading between versions will exist and there will be version exclusives.
    • GameFreak currently has no plans to utilize the Switch Online service with Let’s Go.
    • Once dropped in, the two players can roam the world, catch Pokemon, and battle against NPCs together, all on one shared screen. Even in the middle of a battle, a second player can shake the second controller and drop in to help.
    • If a lot of Pokemon Go Pokemon are transferred to Pokemon Let's Go, you will be able to play special mini-games and receive other benefits in both games.
    • Transferring a Pokemon from Pokemon Go to Let’s Go on the Nintendo Switch will enable you to send gifts to Pokemon Go, and allow you to meet a “special Pokemon” in Pokemon Go that is an "all new Pokemon that hasn't been seen before."
    • Pokémon Ball Plus is currently listed for 4980 yen which is close to $45 USD.
    • Masuda said his team worked especially hard on making use of the Joy-Con's six gyro sensors to ensure it felt right when a Pokemon is caught, and this technology was transferred to the Poke Ball Plus. Basically, you should be able to feel the Pokemon rock "realistically" in the Poke Ball Plus when it's caught.

I would understand if there wasn't a mainline game coming, but there is. This is something to tide people over, and it looks like it'll still be a fun time. I doubt they took too many resources away from them working on the mainline game.

This is a full RPG with Pokémon Go transferability. People are acting like it’s Pokémon Go for the Switch with only a few RPG additions. With what has been revealed it looks like people are focusing too much on the PoGo stuff instead of realizing we are getting an actual Pokémon RPG this fall.
