Everything this band has done is very meaningful to me and if they’re actually getting better then I will probably die from emotions which is how I’d want to go anyways

What if the new lyrics were about how fat a girls ass is? :crylaugh: Could you imagine? I absolutely love that the 1975 write lyrics around real ideas, thoughts, and emotions. Anyone could have written something like "Sometimes we struggle, but we'll make it through baby." But the 1975 turns that into really speaking out about specifically getting hooked on drugs and moving, getting an STD, girl killing herself with the box tattoo, etc. It's REAL instead of fake, general statements just to appeal to the general public.

Loving Someone is my favorite song with the whole rappish part about celebrities lacking integrity and how often sex is sold in the entertainment business.

This kind of reminds me of "Creature Comfort" from the last Arcade Fire album.

Thanks for that - that would make sense. I haven't been super closely following the lead-up to the end of the countdown, just the initial "OMG!" and now that the single was announced.

Not sure if this means anything, But on Facebook Live Nation shared the post about the 1975's new single.

@sophos34 As someone who went to school, and has experience in mixing/production, I'm interested in your thoughts.
I think I Like It When You Sleep is one of the best sounding records I've heard. Maybe you've answered this question before, in which case I apologize, what're your thoughts?

i think the production is about as good as modern pop production gets. its extremely clear and crisp but maintains an atmosphere about it. its extremely, extremely big sounding which means a lot of compression going on but that's intentional to achieve the larger than life sonic landscape. the imagined space the songs take place in isn't a studio, it's a massive arena. and the seamless integration of organic recorded instruments and electronic synthesizers and beats is about as good as you'll hear on any album in the modern digital era of music. as with almost every record in any genre made in the last 25 years, the mastering is pretty overblown compression wise, but that's a common occurrence in all music made since the mid 90s. ILIWYS avoids feeling lifeless like a lot of overcompressed pop records do.

All I know is, if their new tour doesn't come to St. Louis. I'm throwing down.

Audio engineering is so, so cool. Wish I had the attention span to learn more about it

I briefly considered the idea of going to music production school while planning my post-high school days. Still fascinated by reading all about it

The good thing is that it's one of those things you can teach yourself. Plenty of people you can talk to online who know what they're doing and books, etc. And just experimenting can go a long way.

  19. ^truth. I’ve probably learned more just dicking around on my computer with different settings and techniques than I did in 4 years of working in a music store or the year I went to school for audio production

you can learn a lot messing around on your own but nothing will teach you everything you need to know about signal flow like being placed in a professional grade studio and told to record a session on your own

I'm sure, school is just very expensive in general haha. That's all i meant. For free, you can get pretty far.

So based off what i've briefly read in this thread, the album could be out this Friday or next year???

Providing it isn't Friday, if Jamie's tweet about upcoming Dirty Hit albums this year is listed chronologically, it'll be after the Pale Waves album - I'd guess October. But he also retweeted something about it being Friday. Nobody knows, but I'm pretty certain it's this year. Don't see why the manager of the band would post an entire list of his label's albums, including The 1975, being released this year if he knew it'd be out next year.

I generally wouldn't suggest spending the money for school unless you can get a scholarship or in my case have someone else pay for it lol
