Salt and Shadow reminds me a bit of A Thousand Suns-era Linkin Park. And I mean that as a compliment.

  2. The counter argument to that is that the album is built to feel like it's rushing at you, constantly, with an assaulting furor that matches the intensity of the lyrical content. That it's built to feel like it's moving closer in on you, closer, faster, harder, with each moment building on top of the last. This mirrors many of the political themes and the unassailable feeling of that which is above and on-top and you can never find safe haven from.

Salt and Shadow and Death From Above make the Greatest Hits album for sure.

First listen finished. The second has begun.

I already love what I have heard. This very well might be my favorite Thrice record. Dustin's never sounded better imo and the band is just crushing it.

My early favorites: Hurricane, The Long Defeat, Black Honey, Stay With Me, and Salt & Shadow.

    Finally listening.
Only through Wake Up but so far 3/4.

Wake Up instrumentally is interesting but the lyrics seem to be the worst Dustin has ever done.
Hopefully it grows on me because right now I made be skipping it...like every time.

I'm only two listens deep and I already think this will end up second behind Vheissu and just above Beggars for me. It's not as diverse or experimental as either of those albums, but this album just sounds huge and fires on every cylinder and flows so perfectly. It's just an amazing ROCK record, pure and simple.

I do hope the next one experiments more but this album is perfect as a comeback album. Gets us psyched for what's next but doesn't just feel like a stepping stone... It stands amazingly well on its own.

And goodness, it's been said a bunch, but "Hurricane" is ridiculous. "The Long Defeat" and "Death From Above" too. I feel so pumped and I have no business even being awake.

    Fight the long defeat.

Yeah... told myself I would sneak one listen before bed; that was two plays ago.

Just had my first listen, onto two in a bit. On first listen, this grabbed me as much as Beggars did, which is my favorite Thrice album. I enjoy every album but Beggars is my favorite. With that said, this has potential, to me at least, to be as good if not better. Amazing melodies, emotion, scream/gritty vocals. Topped off with god like guitar tones and a great rhythm section, it's a near perfect album (of course this is just all on first listen, it'll probably change, hopefully not though). Only song that didn't grab me much at first is Stay With Me but that could change. Hard to pick a favorite but Long Defeat, Hurricane, Death From Above and Black Honey are my first listen favorites.

Also it should be said I love the production of this album.

Seneca legit needs to be Night Diving long
The singles fit way better in the context of the album than they do as stand alone tracks
The Long Defeat is fucking great

About to hit Salt and Shadow for the first time

I don't think this will top Beggars for me, their best album. There may be more moments of brilliance on this record but Beggars is just another level as a whole.

Hurricane is their best opener. LOVE the tone it sets for the whole thing

I know Thrice has probably never listened to them in their lives but Stay With Me reminds me SO much of The Dangerous Summer. What a beautiful song

Listening to this on repeat is so awesome because it basically loops itself with the outro of Salt and Shadow.

oh my lawwwd. Hurricane.....I listened to the first three tracks driving into work this morning. I legitimately had chills for the entire song and a huge shit eating grin on my face. I'm so so happy that they're back.

The first 30 seconds or so of Hurricane nearly brought me to tears. I just never thought I'd hear another Thrice album

Hahaha. I was on my way to work at 445am.....listening to Hurricane and texting my friends knowing full and well that they were sleeping...I guess that makes me an asshole but I don't care. They needed to know how amazing this is.
