Somebody who knows things who runs this web site already said that MCR isn't playing this year in this thread. So... I'd rule them out, haha.

That would be ridiculous. I wouldn't hate it, haha.

Side note: I've always wanted Riot Fest to have a comedy stage or something to that effect.

I wish RF would do a variety hour each day. You wouldn’t know who will be playing that hour but it would include different acts from the weekend and a few special guests. Maybe it’ll be 10 bands playing 1 song each. Maybe it’ll be a mix of musicians from different bands coming together... jamming out to a bunch of songs. But you won’t know unless you show up.

Cover sets would also be awesome like Hoodwinked/Bamboozle.

They should just utilize the circus tent and have comedy sets in there between shows.

I mentioned it earlier in this thread, but I'm still putting my chips on From First to Last being at least one of the reunion bands:
    • They've been trickling out music for over a year now with no major album or tour announcements.
    • Sonny's touring obligations with Skrillex this year have been pretty sparse. He was basically off from January to May of this year. He played one show May 11th, and the next will be July 27th. After that, his next show conveniently isn't until September 22nd.
    • Towards the end of Matt Good's interview on the Lead Singer Podcast, he and Shane Told seemed to strongly hint that there would be some big movement with the band coming soon.
    • Pure speculation, but that gap at the start of the year for Sonny would allow for tracking of a new album (they also debuted a new track at Emo Nite right before that timeframe), and the summer gaps would allow a solid amount of off time for set rehearsals. They could shoot for a Riot Fest reunion (maybe trickle a single or two before that) and a fall release / possible tour after Sonny does the few international shows he has lined up right after Riot.
    • No apparent radius clause issues for either FFTL or Sonny as Skrillex, maybe an opportunity to conveniently grab both? [This part I doubt, given that Riot Fest's founder was quoted as saying "Skrillex? Absolutely not" as recently as 2015, but hey, sometimes festivals just need to fill out a bill...].
I don't think they'd necessarily be super high on the lineup, but I think Riot Fest is basically the best remaining fest for them to make a return at, and I just don't see the comeback either a) slipping into 2019 or b) the comeback being just a straight-up headlining tour - not even sure how you'd project venue caps with the lineup being what is is now.

Is there any reason Gorillaz would be ruled out? I feel like we discussed them once, but haven't been considering them lately. I could see it happening

All solid enough evidence for me, hah. I think doing a relatively major festival appearance ahead of a headlining tour for a band like them would be a smart move... They'd probably be fairly low on the bill at this stage, no? Toward the top of the bottom of the poster, maybe?

I don't think so? I just checked their tour dates. They're still active this year, although only in Europe. It could happen (and would align with Riot Fest's MO of booking acts that might be big festival draws, but aren't being booked by anyone else in the US this year)!

I just hope they have at least one big loud rock/punk-type surprise draw this year as a headliner. If we wind up with Tool and a few "indie" leaning acts (Gorillaz, Beck, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs) I'm going to be a little bummed, haha.

Gorillaz would be so, so sick.

I'd be all about Gorillaz as a headliner

I'm just trying to hate mosh to Feel Good Inc. in the year 2018

I guess it really depends on the other acts, but I think it's a pretty big range and actually not that low. If we're going off of the 2017 poster, I could see them anywhere as high as Taking Back Sunday (Sonny reunion probably matches/exceeds their current draw) or as low as Mayday Parade.

I just got my hopes up so hard and thought this was a new lineup when I opened the page

Pretty sure their manager said their first shows for the new album would be in October and they'd be in the UK. So it doesn't seem likely.

One last show for the old album cycle?? Jk I don't think they're too likely either way

Pretty much my thoughts on this as well. I'd love to see a metal headliner out of left field like Metallica and maybe a final area appearance from Slayer...if the headliners end up being what you mentioned above, I'll be thoroughly underwhelmed (even though it'd be cool to see the Gorillaz).

edit: Metallica definitely isn't happening (they'll be in Canada that weekend), but my point still stands.

It's a weird balancing act for me between the headliners and the undercard. If there's at least one headliner that interests me immensely, coupled with a strong undercard? I'm in.

Last year, I don't think I would have gone if it hadn't been for Jawbreaker. And don't get me wrong, the rest of the line-up was really strong but most of the bands on the undercard I was really excited about? I could have seen (or did see) touring otherwise that year.

But without things being "exclusive" or whatever? It affects my willingness to travel to a festival.

I feel the same way. They absolutely need at least one headliner or album play that won’t be happening anywhere else to make it worth my trip. So far everything rumored either doesn’t interest me or would be something I’d check out for fun but not a must see. Even things like Alkaline Trio or Flogging Molly or The Get Up Kids wouldn’t be enough to get me there on their own, it would have to be special sets to be worth it. And those are probably my favorite bands that have been discussed as possible.

That's why I only went to one day last year. NIN was a requirement for me so it worked out well.

a metal headliner would be great, with Ghost right before them on the adjacent stage. without considering availability, what metal bands would be headline material AND be someone riot would book? off top of my head: system, tool, APC, iron maiden, avenged sevenfold, rammstein, slipknot, megadeath, ozzy/sabbath, slayer... even some of those may not fit both criteria..

Did we rule out Pedro The Lion as a possibility?

Yeah. They're playing Thalia Hall on August 24th.

I feel like Avenged Sevenfold isn't a Riot Fest band. And I feel similarly about Slipknot... Although they're leaning more in that direction than A7X.

I think you hit most of the big ones, though, as far as headliners go.
