We can send those potatoes people mail each other asking for the ABBA reunion.

I understand the reasons it hasn't been announced but it's also kind of ridiculous it hasn't...it's < 4 months away. I'd be travelling from Maine for this and I'm sure people are coming way further than I. It would be nice to have some time to plan at trip should the line-up be any good.

I mean, somebody's been saying that every week for the past month. Haha. But we're officially beyond the "usual time" so it feels more likely. The only time it's been later was in 2015 when the line-up dropped on the 27th (and that was after Memorial Day).

So there's still a chance it ends up being next week... But releasing something after the Memorial Day weekend just feels strange to me.

I'd be really intrigued by how all of these festivals decide when to make the announcement. Obviously it all hinges on having all of the acts booked, contracts, signed, etc. But like... The day of the week, time of day, how they manage not announcing the same time as other festivals, and so forth. It's super nerdy shit that most people wouldn't care about, but I'd be interested in hearing a podcast about this sort of thing. I'm also assuming there's a method to the madness, and there may not be... Which would be interesting to learn too, hah.

The guy who runs Lolla did a Reddit AMA. He mentioned that all the different festivals communicate with each other about who they’re booking and whatnot. It’s kind of funny.

I imagine they all have a group chat.

He also said Lolla sometimes books headliners 12-18 months in advance. I thought that was interesting. Before this year’s festival begins, they might have a headliner booked for the following year.

As long as we don't get to bamboozle level where it's pretty clear they have no one booked and are stalling

I figured there was regular communication. I heard an interview with one of the people who puts together Wrecking Ball last year, and they mentioned communicating a lot with the Fest to try and minimize overlap with some of the bigger acts who might play both fests.

It makes a lot of sense to do that sort of thing. I'm just intrigued by that aspect of the industry.

Hah! If I remember correctly, that's what folks were speculating about Riot Fest back in 2015... That a headliner had fallen through or something to that effect.

But that was the year a few bands dropped huge hints that they'd be playing in interviews and such too. Like No Doubt saying they were playing a "pretty big festival in the midwest in September," hah.

I'm hoping the Twitter account is dead silent until 11am EST/10am CET tomorrow morning, and all they tweet is "RIOT FEST LINE-UP COMING TOMORROW AT 10AM CET! HERE'S A TEASER VIDEO!" Or something like that. That's usually what happens, right?

I know one band playing and they said the lineup is definitely getting announced at some point.

I still think it would be great if they announced the line-up one year by the Twitter Guy going after people begging for the line-up like they usually do. But for like, two hours... And then just posting the poster with the words "OOPS!"

But I'm trying to live in reality here, hah.

    GWAR. Also? The Killing Joke.

With gaslight announcing another NY show today, do we still think an after show is out of the question even with their 59 sound show sold out?

  20. I've been hoping that since the show sold out so fast and they didn't add a second night like most of the other cities that they'll play the fest proper, but I know I shouldn't expect it

I'm not expecting that, but I've been silently hoping for it. The Riviera is about twice the size of the other venues that have only one date, though... I'd imagine they could do two nights easily in a 2,500 capacity room (although it would likely be many of the same people twice) but it feels like the venue size might be why they aren't doing two nights.

I also feel like that's the kind of thing that (among Gaslight fans) would cause a shit-show. "Wah! I bought a flight and a hotel to travel to DC from Chicago and bought scalped tickets and wah! I bought all your vinyls and you announce this show now in my hometown?!! You are insensitive to your biggest fans! Wah! You should have announced it to people who have the purple marshmallow/tiger orange variant of the Sink Or Swim LP that's only available in Romania!"

Conversely? If it were to happen, I can see Gaslight handling the announcement along the lines of: "So, that show sold out... Here's another one we're doing in the same city so that you don't need to buy tickets from scalpers!"

The show being sold out does makes it a possibility. But I'm not banking on it.

are we still lucky to be here? Prestigious

Most rabid fans of anything are generally pretty terrible people. Look at stupid shit that happened from the Rick and Morty fandom when McDonald's released their szechaun sauce...

That said, I'm happy I have tickets to The Gaslight show at the Riv in August. :)
