  2. Alright, I never thought I'd be writing an essay for fun but I'm excited to do this thing.

It's really cool to me that this club has lasted for 25 weeks and is still going strong. As soon as I saw this thread (I think I joined week 1) I knew that this really got to the heart of why we're all here. We love music and we love to share and discuss it with others. This club is a great way to bring people together who, by virtue of even being here, have a lot in common. Everyone here is really easy to talk to and connect to, and as everyone else has mentioned the atmosphere in this thread is always accepting and positive. It's hard to find a place like that on the 'net these days and I think a huge part of that is the ever-flowing positivity of @Bad Frequencies and the other CMCS staff.

I think it's clear that all of us have many albums and artists that mean a lot to us, and it is so fun and rewarding to share that music with others. I'm sure we've all recommended music to friends and family over the years, and I would guess that everyone else's experiences have been the same as mine. Maybe one out of ten times the other person listens to it? Even that might be generous. To be a part of this community where we're all open to all types of recommendations, excited to be exposed to new music, and willing to take the time to provide feedback to the recommender is really refreshing. Reading a review of an album you love and recommended to someone is always exciting and gratifying. And I love writing reviews because I know it's giving the recommender that same experience.

One thing that I really appreciate about CMCS is that it provides space to discuss and discover music from any time period. Most of the discussions on the site outside of this thread are around the newest releases, and I know I can get caught up in an unending quest to stay up to date with new music. It's hard to find a place to discuss an album from 5, 10, 20, 50 years...hell, even 6 months ago. Many of my favorite albums are hidden gems from the mid-2000s that just aren't in the conversation anymore (or never were). It's so cool to have a space to give those albums a little bit of exposure, and so often they spur whole conversations where other users jump in to contribute their thoughts about an album that they enjoy or haven't thought about in a while. Thanks to the light-hearted atmosphere and positivity here, we can disagree or dislike recs and express ourselves respectfully without arguing or creating tension among members.

It's hard for me to pick two favorite recommendations, but as far as purely enjoying the music two that stand out to me without looking back through the thread are @anonimito's rec of Tunnels by Jome and @Bad Frequencies' rec of Hurt by Hawthorne Heights. I've revisited that Jome album a bunch and that's an artist that I will continue to follow. Probably my favorite rec of a previously-unknown artist I've received in this club. The Hurt rec showed me that Hawthorne Heights have really progressed and created some great music, and I've become much more familiar with the band and their catalog after hearing how strong that EP is. Another memorable one was when @Cody recommended Graham Central Station and then @Nate_Johnson and I and a few others got into a discussion about '70s music. I also enjoyed hopping into the thread for some impromptu reviews last week when I had some free time. @ugman_2000's rec of DZ Deathrays really caught me off guard in a great way. It's an album I've continued to listen to regularly.

Finally, I had the pleasure of reviewing @nohandstoholdonto's band mineral girls' album this is the last time every time. On top of being an amazing album, it was great to experience and give some exposure to the work of a fellow Chorus user. In general, this thread has been incredibly kind and supportive to the musicians that frequent the site (and with good reason as they are all very talented). It's so awesome to see the exposure that has been provided to @teebs41, @bradsonemanband, @CSWAPPO and others for the art they've created.

My favorite reviews of recommendations I gave were probably (off the top of my head) @Bad Frequencies' review of Indoor War by NATIVES and @Nate_Johnson's review of BRMC. I really enjoyed reading about both of those albums because neither of them were really featured on the site at large and it was cool to see someone else's impressions of them and be able to have a little discussion about them. Truthfully though, I've got a kick out of reading every one of the reviews of any album I recommend, regardless of length, score, etc.

I think the concert reviews are my favorite new addition to the club. Release day reviews are really enjoyable as well, but it is fun to read about an artist's live performance since it is a different aspect of the artist's work that we don't speak about quite as much. It's cool to hear about other characteristics of the performance like the setlist, light show, venue, and the personal experience of the concertgoer. Attending shows is one of my favorite activities, so I get a lot of enjoyment out of reading these.

Thank you to @Bad Frequencies, the CMCS staff and the entire community for making this club such a fun experience and something that I look forward to every week. Viva la CMCS!

I heard an album today that someone in here is definitely going to get in the coming weeks. It’s jumped straight into my top 10 AOTY.

@Patterns in Traffic and I have decided to do a one off 1for1 trade next week.

    I gave him:

    Hawthorne Heights- Fragile Future

    And he gave me:

    American Hi-Fi - American Hi-Fi

Such an underrated gem from that era. Loved their riffs, and they also had two really strong softer songs on that record "Another Perfect Day" and "Don't Wait For The Sun"

Great job on this! I really enjoyed reading it! :-) Also, I'm stoked that you enjoy Jome so much! I had a feeling it would be a good one for you, so I'm happy to see that it really was.

Yeah love both those songs, I liked the album back in the day but it wasn’t till I revisited it a few years back that I really fell in love with it. Stacey was great at writing a hook, he’s been involved with some pretty cool acts over the years too.

  24. I think I've said this in this thread before but Stacey plays drums for Matchbox Twenty now and I've seen them a few times in the last few years. My pipe dream is for them to let him take the mic and bust out a few AHF songs haha
