i just don't see how they could possibly recreate the tension. we have seen the monsters in great detail, we know their weakness, how they move, what attracts them. it just wouldn't work for me i don't think beyond making a cast of characters i can really care about again

Saw this finally last night. Really enjoyed it but like some people said, the ending took me out of it ever so slightly, but as others have also said, I love Emily Blunt, and she is a badass.

Walking out I was joking with my brother that if there was a sequel, they could go the Alien/Aliens route where the first movie was traditional horror based, but the sequel is more action/sci-fi based (the ending gave me Ripley vibes). Jump online to see that they are indeed talking about a sequel.

For me this was scary the way aliens was probably scary when it came out, or the way jurassic park might have scared you as a kid. Some veryy intense jumpy stressful scenes but if youre even a little keen to it you can pick out when somethings gonna go bump in the night.

Just got out of seeing it the first time tonight and i looveeddd it.

    Ok so

like a big dum dum dummy i came in here way before i saw it (tonight) and unfortunately saw/accidently hovered over this post upon coming in so his death was spoiled for me by my own dum dumminess. BUT, i’m sort of glad it was, because it almost weirdly added a whole other emotional level to the movie for me. There is some very clear and defined emotional separation between the father and the daughter (the scene with the son at the waterfall was SO well acted by that kid) so after that scene, knowing its probably been some time since they had meaningful loving interaction, i was like holy shit hes gonna die and he better freaking tell his daughter he loves her before he does lol, so throughout the whole rest of the movie as everything is unfolding in the back of my head im like FIND YOUR DAUGHTER AND TELL HER YOU LOVE HER and then it finally comes and the death is waaay obvious and he finally tells her he loves her and i was like aahhh ok, you may die now.

Long post but i was very pleasantly surprised with how a spoiler actually added impact of story for me haha

NOOO. I'm always so paranoid about spoiling a major plot point in a movie that I still feel bad even though it wasn't my fault and even though it somehow added to the movie. That's like a mini-nightmare to me. Hahaha.

How'd you like it as a whole?

Fucking finally saw this. It was ok I guess. Really well crafted on a technical level and some cool ideas, but I just didn’t care about anything really and didn’t find myself too interested in what was happening. Also didn’t like the tone of the ending

Also, I really wish that when Krasinski diedthey let that breathe for a little bit. I understand that if this was real life that maybe they wouldn’t be afforded that opportunity but it just felt like it was glossed over and then ends in a kick ass fuck yeah moment? Like, your husband just died like 5 minutes ago.Removed all sense of gravitas for me.

Lol, last thing. It sorta frustrated me that they tell the kid not to play with the toy rocket and then just fucking leave it there and walk wayyy ahead of him. Like, kids are stupid, or this one is, at the very least put the batteries up on the shelf or something. But to just leave your 4yo behind just expecting him to catch up?? If that was my kid I’d never let them out of my sight. I’m glad that the consequences were paid for those actions, but it’s a little annoying how and that wouldn’t have happened with any logical parents. I realize that’s a little nit picky, but it took me out of the movie right away.

I did enjoy it enough though. Reminded me of Signs

Completely agree with this reminding me of signs and about how logical parents wouldn't walk so far ahead of their kids. Especially the youngest one who cannot comprehend the danger that exists. That kid would be in the front with the parents or what i would think is have 1 parent in front and 1 parent behind all the kids. Doesn't make any sense to have a 3 or 4 year old be back there.

Also agree with John's death being kind of rushed over, but I think in that "real world scenario" there'd be no actual time to deal with that or else everybody else is dead too.
Have to put it aside and deal with the present situation.

Those things didn't bother me enough to think it was just ok, I thought it was really good.

One more thing that sort of bothered me was how they have a few run ins with the aliens and then later on the mom and dad are down below and talking full volume and it’s like...if they can’t hear you down there, wouldn’t you do your best to live out like 80% of your life down there rather than mouse your way through life up top? Obviously that wouldn’t make for an interesting movie but then don’t write in that there’s a big basement you can be in and make noise without consequence. I guess I just think the characters were written to be pretty dumb

Didn't they only just finish soundproofing that room pretty soon before that scene?

Yes, they made it specifically for the baby.

But I guess you could argue they should have done it for themselves either way.

They also could have lived right by the water too... blah blah blah. Unfortunately logic needs suspended in order for films of this nature to work.

I mean sure they could have built a nice house like that by the water without making any loud noises or just live in sleeping bags like that wouldn’t be scary as fuck!

I enjoyed this movie just fine. I think a lot of the logical holes can be explained by trying to keep some sense of normalcy for their children- like, see, we can still have an okay life in our home and our fields, we don't have to live in the basement, we can yell by the waterfall sometimes.

My issue with the waterfall criticism is that it actually makes less sense that the waterfall is safe. If these things are set off by noise, and the waterfall Is so loud that you can scream and be safe, Why do these creatures not just live at the water? Why are they not always there because of the noise? If this was explained then my bad but that was my first thought upon people saying they should live at the water.

I think it's because they hunt based on noise. I'm assuming they're smart enough to know the difference between a static waterfall always making the same noise and moving prey.
