I view it more like Andy was probably pushing the band so hard during those writing sessions that he felt that way. at least that's what I am really hoping. I'm thinking back to Andy's interviews and he said he basically asked everyone in the band to do the opposite of what they normally would do when writing. It seemed like he definitely pushed them hard and even admitted to it in a few interviews. Anyway, I've met Andy and he was really nice and genuine, and you hear a lot of stories of them going above and beyond for fans. Being in a band with people can be really difficult and personalities can clash, that's more in line with how i interpret what happened here with the information given.

i think tone is important when listening. He said it in an obviously exaggerated/slightly joking not joking type of way. It is a weird analogy to make for sure, but I didn't get the impression that it was meant to be taken seriously.

i'm sure he was joking though, and that's sorta the point, it's not something that should be made light of.

seems like he really did have a shitty time though. glad he's happier now.

I listened when it first came out, but I believe he meant the last September, so going on a year of not speaking when this was recorded.

I think it was just a rough experience for the guys because of how ambitious Rob and Andy have become. Which isn’t a bad thing at all in and of itself, but some people aren’t always going to be built for it, or be able to mentally do it. I think Andy had an expectation of Chris always being there. That he was going to be there till the end, because he always had been. When Chris said he wasn’t, or started making it known by his actions, he was hurt by that. I wouldn’t doubt they even said some stuff they both wished they hadn’t. They’re getting to the age that they have to make big choices and not everyone wants to live on the road - especially after getting married, so Chris chose to leave.

But all that being said, I would not be shocked to see him come back at some point. They were best friends from when they were kids. They were eachothers bestmen at their weddings. They’re brothers. In my experience, those relationships always seem to comeback around sooner or later.

Regardless of tone or joking, that doesn't make that comment okay.

Yeah I don’t know what to think here. I always enjoyed Chris’s contributions to the band and the one time I met the band I actually had a chance to talk to him and he seemed like a delightful person. I certainly hope he’s not trying to equate control issues and/or perfectionism related to art with actual abuse... On the other hand, I also hope it wasn’t anything more serious than that.

Working with friends and family can be hard when one person hasnth bgreatest influencing voice. Everyone has the right to say their piece, but everyone has the right to keep their mouths closed in the public and let things run its course.

I prefer an uncomplicated rocking Manchester (METN/LAVLAC), to a complex deep in thought concept (SM/C/BMTTS), but bands to want to evolve and try new things to challenge themselves and stay relevant and engaged.

Hopefully these guys can work things out long term personally, and maybe if it ever makes sense maybe it can become something professionally (even if it’s just hoping the band on stage for a song during a show).

For what it's worth, Brooks has never been called a 'member' of the band, and I don't see any plans to 'replace' Chris at this point, because it probably would have happened by now if it was going to be in an offical capacity.

    The door is open.

I've listened to this record like 6 times over the last two days. Idk why, just really getting back into it. The stories, the feels, the flow, the production, the vocal performance, the lyrics. so much stuff to love about it.

I kind of forget how awesome this record is front to back. Kind of like, "oh yeah, this song. This song rules" but I say it when every single song comes on.

I only started getting into this band and this album in the past month, and I'm absolutely obsessed. Moreso with this album than their others. The Sunshine is probably my favorite.

I wish I had this album when I first started smoking weed 7 years ago before my tolerance grew haha.

haha, well at least you sort of gave yourself an out by saying you may develop it with time.

I finally played my deluxe vinyl for the first time last night (just got a working player this weekend) it was an awesome experience and reaffirmed by belief that this is one of my favorite albums of all time.

The Maze is featured heavily in the trailer for Leave No Trace (currently 100% on Rotten Tomatoes with 18 reviews).

    Pretty cool.
