ILIWYS is perfectly sequenced. I’ve seen a few posts claiming the S/T is better sequenced and I just don’t see that at all, and I’ve been listening to S/T pretty much on repeat for a week now. There’s more diversity in the track list of ILIWYS, which allows the songs to be more easily distinguished from one another sooner imo. S/T’s instrumental interludes also feel a little undercooked to me, especially compared to the likes of Please Be Naked or the title track. And lastly, the sequencing of If I Believe You—>Please Be Naked—>Lost My Head—>Ballad is absolutely unparalleled imo.

the first time i heard iliwys i cried as soon as i heard the rearrangement of “the 1975”. that’s not filler, that’s continuity!!!

First time I listened to ILIWYS I had a visceral reaction to the climax of "lostmyhead" and I was deeply moved to tears.

I’m gonna accept being shat on here because I don’t enjoy the sequencing of ILIWYS. I personally found following up If I Believe You, which is already a lengthy song, with two heavily instrumental songs to be a bit jarring. That being said, I don’t have an alternative, so what the hell do I know.

I definitely find myself picking and choosing songs on that album instead of listening to it as a whole, whereas I felt I did that far less with the debut. I’m not huge on feeling as though an album is split into different sections, if that makes sense. The debut personally feels more consistent as a whole, which some view as a negative. It’s a given that the second album is far more diverse in that regard, but it’s just my opinion. It jumps about a bit, to me.

Totally agree with the above comments. I never realized why I didn't return to iliwys near as much. The album is ace from the start to If I Believe You. Like perfect, then it loses me for a bit. Its too overlong and not enjoyable when I am on a drive home. The first album is 16 songs that feels like an EP. It flies and is enjoyable every moment until the end (for me).

I felt as though it was a little too instrumental. People complained about the interludes in the debut, but with the second album you get a long instrumental end segment to If I Believe You, into Please Be Naked, wholly instrumental, into lostmyhead, primarily instrumental, into Ballad, with a heavily instrumental opening that lasts the the better part of a minute, then a few songs later you get the title track. I enjoy the songs, but sometimes the album can feel a little exhausting to me for listen to as a whole. I really have to focus on setting time aside and being in the right mood if I’m going to attempt that again.

Disclaimer - by no means am I suggesting it isn’t a good album, as it features some bloody brilliant songs. I remember breaking down into tears at work over Somebody Else. It definitely has its moments.

except for the fact that i've seen the band like, six times? and both records were in my aoty lists at one point?

no, the problem is that i like this band but don't think they're the greatest going, and if i ever do any criticism specific people will go after me where there is literally no win for me to continue discussing

We’re all just trying to bide our time until MFC drops, or at least a single. I never got the chance to discuss the album. So, I thought I’d add my two cents.
