haven't listened to Little Changes but i really enjoy all of the other tracks so far. didn't love Blackout at first and went so far as to not finish my listen, but since returning to it i get the "meet me in the middle" snippet stuck in my head all the time. i get not loving Make America Great Again but i enjoy it and i really appreciate that this man has made such a progression from muddy hardcore to killer pop songs without losing his message along the way. 1933 remains one of my favorite rock songs of the year.

overall i truly get being disappointed with the output so far looking at it strictly against his own body of work but on it's own i'm expecting a fun record that steers harder into pop territory than the others and i'll probably love it all summer

Very curious & nervous to hear peoples’ reviews starting today as it’ll be out there.

Having relistening to the four tracks I had already heard, I enjoy them more.

1933 is vintage Frank, and MAGA is really catchy, I just wish it was titled differently. Blackout is my favourite song so far from the album and I like the electric elements added in. She Is is the only track that misses for me.

Yeah I haven't listened to any of the songs in 2-3 weeks. I did not listen to Little Changes or MAGA so those will be fresh for me. I'm honestly craving to hear Blackout again as it was my favorite of the released ones.

I am really excited to hear this whole album soon. After having initially been pretty disappointed in Make America Great Again and There She is, I have found both of those songs popping into my head and getting stuck there at completely random times, despite having not listened to any of these songs since they were first released.

I feel this will be a lot like PSFNP. Song written over a longer period of time. Some songs with a poppier vibe. I guess the use of other instrumentation on Blackout will be the biggest thing. I hope my favourite song on the album will be one that hasn’t been released yet, but the track Be More Mind has been my favourite so far.

Is there any deluxe version of this or anything? Frank has done that in the past.

after one listen I find this kinda... aggressively okay. Nothing is horrible, but also nothing stood out

I really like the opener. That’s about all that stood out. It’s not bad, and I’m guessing it will grow on me, but I think he leans a little hard into empty political platitudes, and I just don’t think this will age that well. Definitely a big step down from the last record.

Listened to about half of this on the way to work. First 4 songs are all great. Had 1933 stuck in my head all day. Really grown on me since its initial release.

On the other hand, Make America Great Again is horrid. For a song with that title, it needs to have a little bite, so actually say something important and attack the phrase. It just doesn't. Got a lot of issues with it, and I know everyone else had this discussion a month ago, so I won't bore you with them. Just feels a real meh track.

I’ll be buying it today after work and listening, but it’s weird to not be losing my shit to hear it.

Yeah, "Make America Great Again" sort of worked with the video, but it's super heavy-handed by itself. The bridge is just awful.

This is so bland, not sure where all the experimental stuff he was talking about was. A huge step down from Positive Songs and easily his worst album yet imo.

I felt the same seeing it live. Somehow really worked. But on record, I just can't get through it. Yeah it makes some fun rhymes and mentions racists, but a song with that title, coming from who it's coming from, should have a kick, some proper bite. It just feels bland and like it has nothing to say...

even ignoring all of the lyrics/title it's still a shit song musically.

I kind of like the verses. The chorus is bad. The bridge is worse.

What confuses me is with PSFNP he wanted to be in studio as less as possible, recording songs in 1-2 takes. Then with this album he dropped that entire mindset and I swear was in/out studio for 2 years.

I hope I can sill enjoy it knowing it’s not going to be the Frank Turner album I expected.

Ah well, this isn't great but at least I am seeing him play Love, Ire & Song in full next Saturday so that will be fun.

The last two albums don’t have the same bite as Tape Deck Heart and the previous albums before it (except two or so songs). PSFNP and BMK are a little more by the numbers covering the Frank sounds to please the different sections of the fan base. There are still some really good songs added to the discography and i’ll add it to the Frank rotation.

It’s definitely an interesting point about how different he’s recorded the last two albums (rush through and take your time).

  22. Agreed with all of this. The opener and the title track are the only ones I really liked on first listen. It really sputters out in the last few songs. I kept hoping for at least one more rocker near the end.

I thought one of the later tracks was kind of cool and unexpected. "The Lifeboat"? But yeah, I don't think this was sequenced well. It's also too long. Lose three tracks and this is a solid Frank Turner record.

Wrecked 'em? Damn near killed 'em!

It's not as good as TDH or EKMB, but I'm still enjoying it quite a bit. I have a feeling this will go the route of PSFNP for me though- I'll listen to this non-stop for a week or 2 then in the end there will be maybe 5 or 6 songs I'll come back to.
