This isn't cool. You are so blind to the idea of our (not just yours, mine too) privilege that you are now talking down to a poc for trying to share with you the realities of their life in America. Really, really urge you to rethink this approach and think about why it isn't okay.

Can we get some semblance of a real discussion in here? This is the kind of stuff that Jason wanted to avoid. Reporting someone and then posting inflammatory shit isn't helping your cases. I understand everyone has very strong opinions on the matters, but this has devolved into you guys just throwing rocks and posting "lol". Cut it out.

Sorry yes you are right. I am privileged to the point I feel safer with the police around. I live right by the police station in city that can get sketchy at night.. makes me feel better. And I feel better when my sister gets off work at 11:30 they are close by.

Yes I agree that was a terrible comment.. I had 5 people calling me names and saying I'm a terrible person. I will stand by that all cops are not bad people, some do great work. I did learn a lot about your beliefs. I still believe the best system is one that allows people to take ownership of their lives and make a better life for them self within reason. If companies paid people a livable wage, but allowed them to earn more to reward their hard work, I think that is the best system. I'll stand by it, I think it can make the best life for all.

Planning to engage in this further after work cause once I start my phones on airplane mode till I'm off. I think I'm following but need to reread it when I have more time.

Right now what I'm not sure I understand is how to put a stop to that outsourcing. We can't control the laws another country has for its workers, but maybe we can control what our companies are allowed to work with? I think I'm missing something.
We can't topple it in America because of its global impact, so how do we stop companies from taking advantage of labor laws elsewhere?

I am really interested in learning more about this, but going into work now. Thank you for the insight here.

Hi again everyone.. I know you glad I'm back. Just wanted to say thinking about it more, I understand where I was completely flawed in my answers, and arguing the wrong thing. I was missing the fundamental part of the argument, which is human nature. The socialist theory yes, would work, if you can retrain people to stop any individualistic thinking. Once you have done that, if the theory is correct that humans pre-set is communal, no one would think about having more or less. So as long as your country can meet human needs and keep up with population increases, yes you would have a society that works. You would need to make sure that no group ends up thinking they are doing a harder, less desirable job and are being forced to do that job. Those are the people that could hurt your society, and you would need to eradicate that line of thinking. You would either need to keep people doing that job by government force, or find people that are ok doing that job. This would be your biggest hurdle, if you can't find people willing to do that job, then you would need to force people to. You need to keep civil unrest to a minimum, and that could lead to a group rebelling. And like others have pointed out, you would need no other countries in the world to have a capitalist society that slowed down the process.

Is that kinda right?

 

don't the same flaws in human nature ruin capitalism too? The underlying assumption you're making is that capitalistic society "works", and I think for a lot of people in the lower classes, it quite simply doesn't.

 

I am not arguing for capitalism here. I'm saying that if the theory is correct that individualism is learned, then socialism will work. Just wanted to point out that if it is not learned, you would need to make sure to keep the bad apples under control. My point of posting was that I was not including this very important piece in my thinking.. and that the socialist theory is correct as long as human nature holds true.

 

Bernie's picks for the Playform Drafting Committee are so solid. I'm very happy about them. Wish he could have gotten someone like Michelle Alexander on there, but I'm still very glad for who the ones he chose.
