Can anyone here help me with a scale length question?

I was using StewMac's fret calculator to get the scale length for my Tele build right and then I noticed some big differences in measurements depending on the style of bridge being used (see screenshot). Can someone explain why this is? I've always just measured from the fret-side of the nut to the top of the middle saddle (regardless of bridge type) plus some compensation.

    EDIT: Figured it out.

Wrecked 'em? Damn near killed 'em!

I'll have to check it asap. I watched the one for The Dear Hunter yesterday, and I had no idea that Casey builds his own guitars. Pretty badass.

I was trying to describe myself to someone

I went to a guitar show for the first time yesterday. I had a total nerd out.

I played a carbon fibre acoustic, which was really unusual. I got to play a handmade British guitar (company called Grainger) and I am very tempted to seriously look into having one built for me. I also got to play through a Scottish made 5 watt combo, which was absolutely sizzling.

Some cool pedal companies there too. Was nice to see some of the UK folks getting a look in.

Afterwards, I ended up taking my colleague into town guitar shopping and he bought himself his first "nice" guitar.

    Very enjoyable day.

  5. Random but.... I want a Friedman EB OD pedal. I'm not sure if I actually even need it... I just want it! haha

Gibson have filed for bankruptcy. Fingers crossed this gets rid of the lunatic in charge and gets someone with some sense taking the company forward. From what I understand though, I'm not sure whether this will be enough of a clear out to sort them out.

Pretty crazy such a legendary company is going down

It's not really the guitar company. The overall corporation is a mess and owes a lot of money after several less than clever acquisitions. Gibson guitars are making money quite happily, from what I've read at least.

Yeah I highly, highly doubt the guitar company is going down. I just hope this gets a new CEO in the door who isn't a lunatic hellbent on making bad decision after bad decision. I can see Gibson scaling back production on how many guitars they pump out in a year, something that will also hopefully coincide with better, tighter quality control.

I feel like part of the problem is that the company has spent way too much time courting the blues lawyer rich hobbyist/collector market, which is how you get assheaded decisions like that new Flying V design.

I don't think it's clear who exactly they're trying to court and that's maybe part of why so many guitar players whine about them now. As well as that appalling Flying V (and let's not forget the Firebird X and the Dusk Tiger), they have been releasing a lot of guitars into the low end of the market. You've then got this whole Pro Vs Traditional thing that they're doing as well.

Sadly, I think it's unlikely we'll see a big shift any time soon. The people who will take over are the current creditors (I think) and so I could see them saturating the market even more to try to increase profit. It would be nice to see someone sensible in charge, who can actually create a coherent vision for the brand, but I won't be holding my breath.

I'd be interested to know what people actually want out of a Gibson these days. All I ever see is people complaining. :crylaugh:

  11. Been geeking out on pedals lately. Really want to grab a Strymon Flint, I absolutely love the tones from both sides, plus it'll save a ton of space as opposed to my original plan, which was to get a Walrus Audio Monument and a JHS Spring Tank.

as someone who owns both a flint and a jhs spring, i definitely prefer the flint. the spring tank isn't bad at all, to be fair. i have always wanted to try out the monument too, tho.

Should definitely wait for the one you want, rather than just getting something sooner. Unless there's something else you genuinely want, of course.

I had this guitar for years. Sad I got rid of it really. You can basically get most sounds you could want out of it.
