Just moved to Forest Hills last week. Really pumped for all the stadium shows to be announced (a little birdy told me Arctic Monkeys are doing two nights at the end of summer).

We'll see if they managed to get an egg in anything before we left but we've been obsessively cautious. Live-in super is very refreshing.

Thanks! I'm on Nostrand and Dean

I'd love to move back to crown heights, I'm a little north in bed-stuy now on Willoughby and Bedford. Though it's looking more and more like a move to Greenpoint will be happening in May.

I used to run through Greenpoint when i lived in Bushwick. It’s such a beautiful neighborhood, especially around McLoughlin Park. I would definitely move there if it weren’t so inconvenient for my job. Is it pricy?

Hey! This may seem silly, but I'm hoping some of you might be able to curb my anxiety. I'm coming to New York next weekend and I've got some pretty high anxieties about public transport.

For what I have planned, I mostly have to take the M train from Flushing into the city (Sussex for one thing, 5 av/53 st for another). Is this line relatively safe? Is is easily manageable? I'm probably overthinking because I live in a big city and take public transport all the time, but I just wanted to reach out.

Cheap eats near Metrograph cinema or MoMA?

Also, I am staying at the NY Moore Hostel. Anyone know it/the area? What's it like?

Finally, what's good to do in Brooklyn on a Tuesday? That's my last day and the only day I don't have a plan yet. I wanted to see the Bowie exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum, but it's closed on Tuesday.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi! You'll be fine on the M train. The subway system in general is pretty safe these days. I always tell visitors to use Google Maps' public transit option to figure out the best ways around - that's what I do when I don't know the route offhand. I normally add in an extra 10-15 minutes to whatever time it gives you, since GMaps is not hooked into the system that actually tells which trains are coming when in real time, and sometimes you can be waiting a bit for a train.

Not so sure about cheap eats near the MoMA, but there are a ton of small-ish pizza, taco, etc shops near Metrograph on the Lower East Side - I'd walk down Essex street til you find something that looks good.

I don't know that hostel in particular, but I do know the area. You'll find a bunch of little bars/restaurants/cafes/shops around there. As a heads up, the neighborhood around it might look very industrial, but is safe. I've walked around at all sorts of hours through that neighborhood and never had an issue - just use common sense. If you want to splurge on amazing pizza, go to Roberta's - it's only a few blocks away from your hostel on the same street!

There are botanical gardens near the Brooklyn Museum that are worth a visit if the weather is nice! Prospect park, too. One of my favorite "i'm bored" things to to in BK is to go to the waterfront, either in DUMBO (stands for down under the manhattan bridge overpass - it's also fun to walk over the Manhattan/Brooklyn bridges if you have time and are into it!) or Williamsburg for awesome views of the city skyline.

    Have fun!!

I've got a little question. I've been tasked to find an apartment in NYC for a 'very) rich client that doesn't have time for lowly things such as searching for a flat himself. I've ran into this site Property for sale in New York City - Buying real estate in New York City, any true New Yawkers could say whether the places the flats are located in are actually good?

    Thanks!

I'm in Bushwick on Jefferson Ave and Wilson! I'm also frequently in Manhattan and try to make it out to karaoke in the East Williamsburg area about once a week.

I used to live off of Jefferson and Central. It was kind of boring lol.

Anyone around Crown Heights want to grab a drink later? I'll even do some travelling. TBH I'm going through a hard break-up, my network is small, and I just need to be around people to take my mind off things.

I don't remember who, but I think someone here said they had to take a landlord to court over some bed bug things? Basically, my old landlord wants to withhold our security deposit by claiming we brought bed bugs into the building and never told her. We have texts, emails, and work orders that completely disprove that, and me and my partner want to take her to court for not only the security deposit, but the two exterminations we had to pay for out of pocket. We don't mind paying a lawyer, so if anyone has any suggestions for one, please let me know!

Talked to a lawyer today. They suggested I start by filing a complaint with the attorney general's office. Usually that scares landlords enough to avoid a lawsuit.

I contacted the real estate agent she works with and he got her to agree to give it back to us by may 15th so hopefully that works out. I really don't wanna drag this out in court.

On top of that, me and my partner are splitting up so I'm trying to find a room to move into asap.

    Hi guys,

I'm going to NYC for the second time next month, with my girlfriend (yay!). We just can't wait to rediscover the city. This time, I would love to visit some great film venues, mainly nice and charming theatres where we could see some films. If anyone has some recs (about other stuff as well!), we will be there May 7-May 16.

    Thank you so much!

Check out this list, lots of options. If you’re okay with going into Brooklyn, the center where Alamo Drafthouse is (second thing from that link) also has a pretty good food market on the lower level. And it’s within walking distance to the promenade which is also cool to stroll along if the weather cooperates.
