The theater gets paid by MoviePass. They should be making more money overall.

That should be a positive for every theater out there. I think where it hurts them is when theaters like mine give points no matter how you pay. I generally only buy concessions when I earn free ones and upgrade to a large for 2 bucks.

So I use MP to get in. I bring in a bottle of water. I use my points to get a $2 large popcorn.

I see a new movie opening night with a drink and large popcorn for $3, if you assume the bottle I bring was $1. Which it’s not because it’s from a $5 32 pack.

So they aren’t making much money from co cessions from me as they are paying for most of it.

Aside from opening night/big movies, there are lots of empty seats in theaters that are generating $0.00 for the theater/studio. If you put butts in those seats, that's money. There's literally zero reason the theaters should have an issue with MoviePass. I can understand not wanting to cut deals where you give up part of concession sales, but they could definitely work something out, especially for non-peak times.

I feel like if MP was to put a few restrictions on things, they'd be more successful. If you couldn't see a movie opening weekend, or you had to go only on weekdays... The only problem is that the customer base is accustomed to the current "one movie a day, everyday" model that any restrictions they come up with now, will probably lose them a certain number of subscribers.

    Die rad.

Moviepass makes theaters money, just not moviepass. So moviepass should get some type of discount from theaters. I've seen 5 movies in the last month. Before moviepass I didn't even see 5 movies in a year.

I saw “Truth or Dare” last night because MP paid the bill. That’s all you need to know about its value to the theatre chains.

Movie pass will inevitably go bankrupt at which point the individual chains should be smart enough to do their own versions which will inevitably cost more money than movie pass but less than regular tickets

    Exactly this probably

  8. Cinemark already has a that thing where it's like $8.99 a month, which includes 1 free movie a month (add additional tix for $8.99) and 20% off concessions.

Sinemia is actually not a bad alternative to MoviePass. The basic membership only allows for 2 movies a month but it does include 3D/IMAX and you can buy tickets online/in advance.

Both of those are HORRIBLE deals in comparison to MoviePass. Even if MP did $10/4 movies a month, it'd still be miles better than either of those.

Used it to see Blockers today, which I really really enjoyed, but probably wouldn't have paid to see, otherwise. I hope it sticks around for a while.

Advertising on Facebook I just saw, and then I checked their website and it's the same there, now says one free movie a week.

Looks like we all lucked out getting in quick enough, but I wonder how long it will last.

If they shut down, will they have to pay back any money to those that bought the year plan?

I see about 8-9 movies per month, at a cost of around $100 to MP. I would see about one movie a month if there was no subscription plan.

I thought the one movie a week thing was just with the iheartradio promotion...or is that the only option now?

I believe that’s the only option available at the moment for new subscribers. Could be temporary.

Yeah I’m guessing it’s temporary but still a bummer.
I’ve been taking about it with anyone I can so I can have more people to go with and now it’s not nearly the deal I’ve been describing lol

They do that with these promotions. I remember when they were doing the yearly subscription thing that was the only way to sign up for about a month. Then when the yearly promotion was done they went back to monthly.

In the last few days I've finally seen Black Panther, Blockers, and now Kodachrome. Kodachrome was clumsy at times but Ed Harris is wonderful, and the soundtrack was pretty good.

Went and saw Ready Player One for my first movie.

The pass loaded more than the ticket cost tho. Anyone have experience with that?
We only found out because the theater first charged us for two tickets and the remaining balance was only $3
