because the conversation surrounding this band reflects the weird insular elitism and gatekeeping that made me disillusioned with heavy music as a whole and this band continuously stokes that flame while making some of the most provocative/interesting/beautiful music under that umbrella

there wasn't any gatekeeping intentions in my post containing my comment about the album art. if deafheaven gets more people into heavier music (especially bands i enjoy more), i'm all for it.

my comment was an initial reaction about how the album art appears to be a step down from sunbather and new bermuda, but it might fit the general aesthetic of the album the more i read into it and listen to other tracks. we'll see. *shrug emoji*

 

wasn't really a shot at you, mostly frustrated with my old friends in hardcore that love ripping into this band for reasons beyond my understanding, carry on

 

Album art/packaging will probably be fantastic if Nick Steinhardt was involved again.

 

Title, art, and lyrics are all dope imo. Extremely here for this after not loving New Bermuda as much as Sunbather

 

Definitely a departure in album cover but I dig it especially with the alt rock feels

FUCK YES! I will absolutely be at the Dallas date. My favorite venue ever... outdoors, intimate setting. Can't wait.

really interesting venue choice for mn. wish we were getting MONO, too.

 

I’ll never forget the first time I heard Sunbather. My friend/radio co-host sent me the album and told me to just sit down and listen all the way through. So happy I did.

 

listened to Sunbather for the first time in a while tonight. it’s definitely lowered in its standing over time, while New Bermuda’s has steadily risen.

the ending of Pecan Tree still gets me every time, though.
