Eminem brought out Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, Skylar Grey, and Kehlani to his coachella performance, Could he do this for the rest of his festival appearances? Or maybe the tour after could have Kehlani and Skylar?

The Get Up Kids show in Portland is sold out, apparently? I'm...in a daze. I have to be at that show. I know there's a lot of Portlanders on here, if anyone of you have an extra ticket at any point in the next ten weeks, I would gratefully take it off your hands.

I love people like you who just assume that they don't draw fans based on your own opinion of them. It's everything wrong with these threads. Like I don't love The Wonder Years but I don't chime in on random threads and talk about how they haven't done anything to progress since 2010.

To be fair, All That Remains progression into a hard rock band with metalcore influences has coincided with the stagnation in popularity or break-up of a lot of bands from that era. Bands like them and Unearth aren't going anywhere fast in terms of popularity. Some bands from that era like Shadows Fall or As I Lay Dying have broken up or gone on hiatus (As I Lay Dying is probably a bad example, but it was one of the first bands from that era to come to mind who aren't really around anymore). The only metal bands from that era that seem to be thriving right now (off the top of my head) are Killswitch Engage, Lamb of God, and Mastodon....maybe also Five Finger Death Punch and shit like that if you want to go that far.

To be fair, it also doesn't help when your frontman is the biggest right-wing jagaloon with an inferiority complex this side of the White House, but that's just an aside.

Ok maybe I need to apologize but I thought we were talking about Avenged not ATR??

EDIT: yes, I do now see he was talking about ATR, my bad! haha, trying to do one too many things at work.

Haha. Seriously. One of the biggest (wrong) complaints I see from a lot of people about them is how much they've changed.

yeah, like i can see this complaint from like, suburbia to TGG and then maybe to parts of NCTH (which is a bad album for other reasons) but if you compare the upsides and today there's like, no similarity lol

To be fair, you miiiight be able to apply the same general arguments about stagnation to Avenged Sevenfold minus the frontman aside. After the discussion about them on Saturday morning, I went and took a look back at the Billboard Boxscore reporting that was available for Avenged Sevenfold's recent touring. There was some mixed information that I saw - they sold out a 12,000 cap arena in Quebec with Breaking Benjamin and Bullet for My Valentine in January, but had trouble even getting half that many tickets sold on the same tour in Kansas. I also saw some information where they had pulled about 5,000-6,000 fans in a 9,000 cap arena in PA on an off date with Volbeat and Motionless in White from their tour with Metallica last year. Based on that information, the fact that they're doing a summer tour that has some dates in large outdoor ampitheaters is astounding to me. The venue for the Chicagoland date of that tour has a capacity of 28,000. Now, maybe touring with Prophets of Rage will help fill those seats better than Volbeat and Breaking Benjamin, but that venue just seems way too big for them based on recent history even in a major market like Chicagoland.

This is probably all just baseless thinking, but it's an interesting thought experiment at least.

I'm one of those complainers. I've been following TWY since 2010 and the fact that I'll probably never get to twostep to Washington Square Park greatly saddens me. Surburbia is their best album to me, and I loved TGG. But NCTH was produced horrible and was not that strong as an overall record. Also, I hated Sister Cities.

that's because they aren't a pop punk band anymore. which makes sense. but if you say the haven't progressed as a band that's factually wrong

Completely agree. Their progression has been quite marvelous. It's just not te style of music I like from them. Totally get that they wanted to transition this way since even before The Upsides (as they HATE their first LP) but it just bums me out.
