    Uggh rewatching is so painful.

Also, decided to go ahead on the TV listings to see how the episode is described next week, and it says "Hannah meet's Sam's family" instead of GIlly...they used the actress's name lol.

    So the theory that

Bran is the cause of the mad king's madness
has to hold a little more weight after this episode, right?

At first I thought it was because I had had a few whiskeys, but upon sobering up, this episode really, really packed in a lot of presumptive stuff. I feel like fans who haven't read the books have to be somewhat confused.

How is this necessary if Bran has already demonstrated in Season 4 that he can warg into Hodor regardless? What's the point of even going into the past?

Also, was that flashback meant to be really far back, saying that the CoF created the original White Walkers? I took it as them bringing back the White Walkers. How does that mesh with the fact that they fought them off? How does that mesh with the story of the Night King being a watchmen subsequent to the existence of White Walkers?

I also hate to be that guy, because it's largely contrary to the will of the original intended audience and the design of the story/genre, but I really enjoyed this show more in the first two seasons where it was mostly mortal non-magic character drama with a sprinkle of extra-worldly stuff. As someone who was always partial to the King's Landing and Essos storylines more than the rest by far, I miss the political drama of the Lannisters, etc.
    That's just a personal note.

My takeaway was that the Children of the Forest created the very first White Walker (the Night's King being the first ever) to combat their war against the First Men. Obviously at some point they lost control of them. Or they never really had control over them in the first place.

I'm intrigued to know why the White Walkers would still be creating patterns with those they kill that mirror the patterns the CoF would make. They talked about it briefly in the Making of the Episode bit, but didn't dive too deep on it

I was uncontrollably sobbing at the end of the episode, wow. Totally devastated.

I've been teary eyed before, but this was on another level I've never seen with fiction.

That ending was a masterpiece; music, acting (especially from the kid Hodor), editing. God damn.

My assumption would be Melisandre, maybe? All the health miracles in the world tend to be by Res Priestesses.

I don't think it was cured. It was just halted from spreading further.

Bran warging into Hodor in the present (i.e., in the tower when he was making too much noise) is only possible because of when he warged into him in the past. His powers are stronger now (in the cave) so he had the ability to overwhelm someone who is mentally competent, which reduced that mental strength and allowed him to warg into Hodor in the tower, when his powers were substantially weaker and less developed. Circular causation.

The Children created the white walkers, we no longer have any reason to believe that the Night's King from the Watch's lore is the same as the lead Walker who is the primary villain now.

But anyways, since there are still questions about Bran last night... I think you're not supposed to look too far into the details yet because he still doesn't know what exactly he is doing. I thought he sort of got "stuck" in the past like the raven warned him about earlier this season so he needed a way to get to the present. In the process, he directly messed up Hodor's brain.

Again, I don't think the details are necessarily important, but it just serves to show that he can't CHANGE what's happened in the past, but he may have directly influenced things in the present by inserting himself in the past.

Synopsis for next week says "an old foe comes back into the picture." Gotta be The Hound, right?

I think Hodor's death would have hit me harder if we had seen him for more than 10 minutes in the last few years

Seeing people call this one of the best episodes the series has done has me puzzled. I completely disagree. Thought it was fine and typical GOT until that end scene, which, while emotional (I agree that a lot has to do with the internet making Hodor out to be a bigger deal than he really is), it doesn't elevate the rest of the episode for me.
