Ok so...

While I totally appreciate and love that a lot of you still participate in these compilations regularly and have kept this project alive for the last couple years, there has been a noticeable decline in the number of submissions and discussions lately. Maybe people just aren't interested in the bands/themes we are covering, maybe they're burnt out from doing these every few weeks, maybe they're busy with life or their own bands, etc. No matter what it is, it's nobody's fault, and it's really not a big deal. Even I have started feeling a little burnt out on these comps recently.

I think it wouldn't hurt to take a little breather from these compilations for a bit.

For myself personally, it's been a pretty big undertaking doing these compilations every few weeks for the last couple of years. I feel like it's affected my own creative musical growth a bit. I used to write and release original material almost constantly, and lately I've been feeling the NEED to do more than just record a song or two a month. It's not enough for me anymore. At least not right now.

So I've decided to throw a little wrench into these compilations. We're going to take a 2 month break, and then in June, we will pick it all back up where we left off.

My plan is to focus on some original material by writing and recording a brand new solo EP.

The EP will be released on June 8th. For me, if I don't set a deadline for myself, I'll just push it back further and further, and it will never get done, and then I will become discouraged. So that's why I am already calling out the release date.

But here's the thing... I don't want to make all of my friends (YOU!) wait for me until June to start recording music again, especially if this is your main outlet for your creativity...

I want to challenge you all and do this with me!

Due Date: Thursday, June 7
Release Date: Friday, June 8

RULES & GUIDELINES:
- Each participating member submits an EP's worth of songs
- It's your EP so it can be as long or short as you want, but ideally 3 to 6 songs
- Covers are fine, originals are encouraged
- If you aren't satisfied with your voice, drum skillz, or face-melting guitar solos, reach out in the comments here and see if someone would be willing to collaborate and lay down some tracks for you
- Send your finished EP to [email protected] by the due date of June 7th
- When you send your EP, please include your artist/band name, EP's title, the track order, artwork (if you want)
- Preferred delivery method would be a RAR or ZIP file that contains the songs in WAV format in the specific order you want the songs to be in via Zippyshare, Mediafire, Dropbox, Google Drive, or whatever file sharing site you prefer

Consider this an official EP for you or your band. Create something you're proud of. Collaborate with other users. Experiment. Be creative. Don't procrastinate. Don't stress. Have fun.

And PLEASE keep the conversations in here alive. Help keep us motivated and excited by telling us how your songs are coming, show us what you're using to record, show us clips or demos of what you're working on, ask for feedback from others if you're stuck on a part, collaborate with other users, etc!

I can give it a try, me and the new band have some demos put together very in the vein of Dawes/Bahamas/John Mayer. A full EP worth might be tricky but maybe by June.

 

Ha i mean I would probably submit 5 songs from our record, but other than that I have no time!

 

I’ve been meaning to get back into recording after a busy few months. I’ll try to do this if I can find the time, but no promises! I’ve got songs written, just need to record stuff.

Dang. I definitely have an EPS worth of songs, but they aren’t recorded and I probably won’t have time to do it this month.

Maybe I can make the June date.

I just gotta get married, graduate from grad school, and finish building the home studio before then. Hahahaha

For sure. Getting these songs recorded is all on that timeline. If the due date was July instead of June I’d be all in.

 

Hi! New to the thread, but I’ve been writing a ton—and recording nothing. I’m down for this!

I could easily write and record an entire EP by then (realistically I could do it in less than a week), but the production quality will be poor

 

i can, was already planning on something.

 

I've got 6-7 songs mostly fleshed out. I'll do my best to finish those up and get something for this.

 

I’m absolutely in. I just put out my original music for the first time in December as a project over Christmas break and I was thinking about how to occupy myself in my first month of summer vacation (school ends in a couple weeks). Not sure if this means I’ll rerecord the three songs I put out in December or work on some new new stuff, but I’m excited to figure it out. Great idea!

I know I've been super MIA around here :(

I had some logistical changes at home and I had to essentially dismantle all my studio gear. It's going to get set back up in August and I'll absolutely jump back in when I can!

 

that's what it's all about! and i'm always wanting to hear more of your music.

 

Well, I did do 52 covers last year, most of which I didn't submit to comps. I could do the lazy thing and submit an EP of those...

 

or do the non-lazy thing at cover 4 or 5 new ones!

 

Maybe I'll write a grindcore/power violence EP. I can manage 4 minutes.

In all seriousness, I'll lay down bass or lead guitar for ANYONE. Drums will be based on the song... if I feel it (and it seems appropriate).

This seems like a super cool idea. Might try to write something way outside of what I usually do for this.
