I totally missed this

Rey’s lightsaber practice and the showdown on Crait; or, that time that Luke recognized that Rey was using Ben’s fighting style

 

I think this is reaching a little, seems more coincidental than anything. Kylo at times seems just as untrained and clunky with a saber as Rey does. I think the reaction on Luke's face is more just being impressed that she kind of already knows what shes doing with a saber, furthering the belief that she really is something special.

 

You could be right, maybe it’s not foreshadowing — but it makes sense that during the interrogation scene in TFA Rey picked up Kylo’s fighting style a bit (like the Jedi mind trick). Also, that Kylo is the only force sensitive individual she has seen use a lightsaber

'Star Wars Episode 9' Won't Separate Finn and Rey, John Boyega Confirms

 

I feel like I’ve heard from rian or somebody that when kylo was in Rey’s mind that was really what awakened her access to the force and bridged a connection between her and kylo. It reminds me almost of Harry and Voldemort. I like that interpretation of it all.

 

I dunno, could be reaching, but it does seem like the kind of detail Rian would have put in intentionally.

 

Thank The Force. Now hopefully Poe joins them.

 

How much of Rose does everybody want in 9? Idk if I need her a part of the main adventure. I’m nervous about the contrived relationship avenue.

 

I don’t think I need her in it at all honestly

 

I really loved how Kelly Marie Tran portrayed the character, so I could use a little more of her. But I'd want the focus to be on Finn/Rey/Poe in terms of the good guys.

 

I would like for Rey and Rose to develop a friendship. Rey is always talking to guys. Would love a moment w/ the two of them fixing up the falcon.

 

I think she’ll definitely be in it but I’d definitely either like if she had a lesser role or is handled a little better. I don’t think she was a bad actor and I liked what her character brought on a thematic level, the writing/execution was just a little too cheesy for me.

Oooh that’d be fun and would make sense.

 

Balance of the Force was pretty cool to watch. The documentary was better and more moving than most actual movies being released lol

 

I kind of want to get the Ep. 9 thread started so we can start speculating and talking about everything we want so we can be properly pissed off when none of it comes true.

Probably should wait until it starts shooting though I guess lol.

 

I want Rose's story to mean something in Episode 9. She started off so strongly in TLJ by showing the audience the emotional toll being a Resistance fighter has on those involved after the death of her sister. However, she quickly went downhill after the film took her to Canto Bight, as the Canto Bight stuff was EASILY most people's least favorite part of the film. I know that for me, thanks to the heavy CGI and the lack of impact on the film's overall plot I strongly disliked Canto Bight and, by extension, much of Rose's story.

I think that if Rose works alongside Finn, Rey, and co in Episode 9 then the audience will (hopefully) change their feelings about Rose.

 

Rose’s part at Canto is fantastic and the best part of those scenes by far.

 

Yeah I'm sure Rose will be in 9, it would seem silly to omit her character completely after her heroics at the end of this movie and her presumed newfound love for Finn, I just meant that, I liked what she brought in this movie but if she's just going to be a tag-along character in 9, I wouldn't be upset if they ended up not writing her in. With only 2/2.5 hours left in this trilogy, having too many characters to focus on could make things messy and feel rushed.

That said what do I know, in JJ we trust.

 

Outside of the set design, Rose's backstory monologue is the best part of Canto Bight.

 

The set design and puppet work shown in the documentary made me appreciate the artistry of those scenes more. Even if I don't love every aspect of them in the film.

 

I wouldn’t mind seeing Rose as a semi-high ranking rebellion leader, alongside or underneath Poe.

 

Rose definitely seems like a character that would rise to the occasion, more so than in the situations presented in TLJ. I could definitely see her becoming a rebellion leader if they chose to write her story in that direction.

 

So after some skimming I think I finally realize why I couldnt find "The Rebellion is Reborn" from the soundtrack while watching the movie. Because its not in there lol

 

I never noticed that until now.
