Appreciate the tip. I’m not super pressed to see it. I enjoy Keating, but I can handle waiting another couple weeks.

Alien 3 is one of those sequels that's so bad it almost ruins the flawfree movie before it because every time I watch Aliens I get so upset about what I know happens in the next one!!

I remeber reading an article that made a case for Alien 3 being about hiv being contacted in prison, and it made the film way more creepy to me. Still easily my least fav in the series. Resurrection is at least fun. Also that scene where the dog dies makes me sad.

How The AIDS Crisis Influenced Science Fiction - Geek.com

“When Ridley Scott’s Alien was released in 1979, we were still three years out from the disease being named, but it really feels like the first science fiction movie of the AIDS era. A spaceship’s crew encounters a mysterious lifeform that incubates inside them, hiding without any sign until it’s ready to reveal itself and ruin their lives. That’s one of many readings, of course, but David Fincher made the connection crystal clear with 1992’s Alien 3.

In that film, protagonist Ripley lands on a penal colony exclusively inhabited by men, isolated from society due to a genetic mutation that makes them aggressive and violent. By this time in the real world, AIDS was in full-on panic mode. Stories of people jabbed with infected needles circulated through the tabloids, and sufferers – primarily gay men – were ostracized. The real villain of the piece isn’t the xenomorph, but the pharmaceutical company was profiting off of these men’s lives.“

i may get better but we won't ever get well Prestigious

Safe doesn't quite qualify as sci-fi or horror but it has tinges of them and is a terrific metaphor for the AIDS crisis

Another interesting thing is Alien in general is meant to prey on people’s fear of oral penetration

Or I should say unwanted oral penetration

Alien 3 has a nostalgic love from me. It was the first Alien film I saw, saw it when I was a kid. Had a TV version recorded on a VHS. I’ll always love 3 haha

I really liked The Strangers 2. Great music, very tense, and the third act had so many thrilling moments

^^no but i am intrigued by the plot description

also if any of you are looking for a halfway humorous, campy, not-quite-slasher, check out Nurse. It's like 1h19m runtime, so even if you hate it, my rec only cost you an hour

If y’all never watched it, seek out the documentary about it on the Alien Anthology BD way. It’s the unedited version of it, since it was also meddled by 20th Century Fox on the DVD set, and it really gets in just how much they actually fucked with it throughout the entire production. There’s a very good reason why David Fincher wants nothing to do with it, although he did say the alternative version of it that appears in the sets is close to what he wanted to do with what he had.

I honestly hated Alien: Covenant. I rather liked the xenomorphs being this evil, mysterious thing with no origin, it worked.

After the discussion of Silence, I rewatched it and Hannibal. Never noticed this before, but there is quite an oversight in the ending of Hannibal. when Clarice handcuffs herself to Hannibal, he cleaves off his own hand. Rather silly since we watched him pick himself out of handcuffs in Silence with only the tip of a pen with his hands behind his back. Quickly enough to dispatch two police officers before they know what’s going on.
I know the message they were trying to send about how Hannibal views his relationship with Clarice, but still irritates me having that kind of gap.
