oh my god, I'm back on my bullshit Prestigious

That's not a bad thing imo. Better to draw attention to good music with a good review rather than getting views from giving a negative review of an Eminem album.

How can you call yourself a critic if you're not critical of anything though? I never understood that

i don't think most of the reviewers on this site would call themselves critics though more than just music writers

i mean, i generally only focus on writing about bands i like but there is a time when bands i like put out substandard records. not every record a band puts out is their best

which is my point if every band you like is always doing their best work you can't call yourself a music critic but if you just consider yourself a music writer then whatever I guess but that means your reviews are just press releases

this probably comes across a lot more harsh than intended btw I don't really care about music crit or writing in general which I've made clear recently it's not that serious

LOL! I wasn’t throwing shade at you. Being critical of music is fine, but it’s so subjective that I guess I’ve never seen why people take it so seriously. I’m agreeing with you.

I think this band is actually a perfect example of that. The Upsides was a “time & place” record for me, but nothing they did after caught me. From my understanding the two after that were praised pretty universally, right? For whatever reason they just didn’t click with me.

Now with this record, the art, and everything surrounding it, they have my interest again.

As far as critics go, I think it’s just because I’ve defintely had people be critical of my work so it’s easier for me to be like “yeah whatever.” And I’d imagine the same goes for you @sophos34

thats me with this band only with suburbia. im stoked for sister cities after really not liking tgg or ncth at all.

and yeah its really been the last year or two where i dont care about critics at all, before i really cared but like ive said i get much more out of talking on this forum and in friend groups about music than reading reviews so i rarely bother. i do like when bands i love get positive coverage on bigger publications though

Defintely late to suburbia. I listened to it last night on my run and liked about 1/2 of it, where when it first came out I mostly ignored it. So I am coming around to that record.

Loved the Aaron West stuff though.

i couldnt get into aaron west because i didnt think soupy's voice suited the style but the siter cities songs show a much better soupy vocally so im wondering if future aaron west stuff will be better

I really don’t think there is an album, maybe only Handwritten, which has resonated and connected with me more than Suburbia. Ehh, nvm, the Greatest Generation was there too.

I don’t really listen to those TWY albums anymore but I know in that time I NEEDED those albums more than anything.

  21. I should listen to this but Now, Now is just dominating the playlist.

It’s not going to deter how hyped I am for this. I love the two songs officially released so far. They’re one of my favorite bands. That said, I want to hear what people who don’t share that opinion have to say.

Fans can enjoy the band all they want, I'd rather be left out of it at this point. It's not fun for me or worth the headache I get --- it's too much and being bombarded with that can't be healthy.
