from my perspective serving food: nah unless it's a complete overhaul of a menu item, essentially creating something that doesn't exist, it's fine. substitutions don't take much time, esp in a context like taco bell where the app might even take the order for you. most cooks don't care either unless it's the thing I mentioned of being a completely different item

oh for sure, I get that social anxiety aspect of it completely bc I'll suck up things for that reason aaaall the time. I just get people fairly often with certain dietary restrictions, like vegetarians or vegans or gluten intolerance or allergies or what have you, so I assume most who work in food aren't bothered.

in fact! if it's somewhere you tip, we're happy to do so bc a substitution might cost you more which means a bigger check and a bigger tip. I wish it wasn't like that though bc if you have an allergy you can't help it sucks you pay more to accommodate :/

I think there's a fundamental problem with putting fries in enclosed areas such as stuffed inside a sandwich or a burrito. Unless you're into limp, soggy fries, just leave your fries on the side. There's a reason why fast food fries are transported in a container without a top. Fries inside a closed container or another food item steam and become a soggy mess of potatoes. The texture of whatever you're eating becomes ruined. However, potato chips are a different story. Sorry Primanti brothers and California burritos, but I'll have my fries on the side where they stay hot, crispy, and delicious.

I'd never heard of a California burrito before and I googled it and it looks delicious but regular like diced up potatoes or something would be soooo much better in there it looks like.

Agreed. Too much potato on a burger or a burrito is a major deal-breaker for me. I've had a few California burritos, but they're always a textural nightmare. Burrito + potatoes on the side for me from now on.

I mean, I just do it myself and eat it immediately. No one has to do extra work and there's no time for the fries to get soggy.

Yeah first time I had the nacho fries it was great. Since then they've been under seasoned and cold. But I'm an addict and will be back for more

Went to TB last night for dinner. They were out of nacho fries and it took 30 minutes to get my food.

They should make a spicy version of the fries. I would be down with that.

Had TB last night and made the fatal error of forgetting to order Baja Blast. But I got the quesorito with fries inside and it was bomb

I'd trade the fries if it meant we got the stacker back

my girlfriend's sister works at Taco Bell, and I asked her if they were keeping the fries or not, and she said that since they've been added to the dollar menu, they'll most likely keep them (even tho apparently all the employees hate making them) so here's hoping. they'd be foolish to get rid of them

the loss of the stacker is so weird bc it's literally just a folded up quesadilla hahaha. it was probably the price that made them get rid of it tho, a dollar for that is a good deal

When I worked at Taco Bell I hated making any grilled item, so I don't think they value employee feedback haha
