Unless I'm misreading the conversation, I don't think that anyone is saying references to other artists/songs/lyrics is necessarily a bad thing, but there appears to be a weird grasping for former glory tone that blink has been taking with this particular album cycle. I get trying to make their fans hype but releasing a single then two jokes songs in a row is just a weird move. It's obviously working for a lot of people on here, but I find it pretty lame.

To be fair, they never actually released Brohemian Rhapsody. All they did was play it live.

They haven't released two joke songs. They played 30 seconds of music at one show and some people who are annoyed by it have taken it and ran with it, using it in some weird way to discredit the record without even hearing it.

Well I built my pool to cool down in the summer heat in a nice, refreshing way. (I don't have a pool)

Jason cited people who have heard the entire record and are saying that the songs take away from the quality of it

That isn't what's being discussed here. There have been plenty of people, yourself included, that have in some way chastised the band for releasing two joke songs after the lead single, which they have not done.

I also don't believe most people who have said they've heard the record actually have.

They referenced Morrisey, The Smiths, and their own band name within a minute and a half lol

I chastised them for writing and playing two shitty songs, certainly.

That's a weird accusation to make. I don't understand why fans of this band take any sort of criticism so seriously.

You don't believe that Jason, who works in this industry that gets early advances, knows people who have heard the record?

When I would write a bunch of lyrics, I had always wanted to include references to some of my favorite bands, but without name dropping.

One song I wrote had the line:
"And I'm feeling so scared (or numb, we would switch it up) when all of this is done. It's like I've fallen in love, diagnosed with Stockholm Syndrome. She said 'Didn't you know, My hearts the worst kind of weapon?' I said I know, i guess I'll just give up, give in."

Giving some blink and Fob love lol

Two posts ago you literally said you found it very lame and called it a weird move to release two joke songs in a row.

It's not an accusation, whatsoever. I have encountered far too many people in this scene over the years that want to puff out their chests and say they've heard this and that when I know first hand they have not. Perhaps these people have, maybe they haven't. Without any kind of concrete indication that they can tell me something about the record the band themselves haven't said, their thoughts don't hold any weight for me.

I have also worked in this same industry many times, albeit not at the level Jason has. Refer to my post above. It's very common.

Are we forreal getting into the semantics of the word "releasing"? They've played three songs off of the new album: their mediocre lead single and two joke tracks. I find that lame and also a weird move. I also think it's a weird move to include the joke songs on their album to begin with, especially as a closer

  14. They've heard the record. I know for a fact they've heard the record, I'm not stupid and I'm not talking about blog writers here.

There is a huge difference between releasing a track to the world and playing it live one time.

I mean I haven't heard the record and I can probably tell you that having a joke track as your last song is stupid. Dude Ranch is my favorite album by them and I think all of the joke tags on their songs are stupid as well

I believe you. After all this time, I don't expect you to communicate often with people you don't trust. I'm also sure that after this many years doing what you've done, you've encountered your fair share of "look at me, I've heard it" critics.

I don't believe we disagree on that point. I'm simply saying that I'm sideeying blink for coming so heavy with this "hey bros we're back with dick jokes!" schtick that has come with this album cycle. It just seems very calculated and disingenuous to me. I get why they're doing it and it's obviously working by how much some of the people in here are stanning over defending the joke songs, I just think it's lame

Like, there's a huge portion of 25 and older blink fans who will probably giggling along with every fart and dick joke made on stage, that's fine. There were plenty of people who couldn't even concede that buit this pool might be bordering on offensive, too.
It's just not my bag anymore

I'm not sure what the implication is here. Surely you're not implying I'm one of those people?

Sorry if the way I did that was rude and correct me if I'm wrong but I thought you switched up quickly where I first mentioned that I'm sure he knows people that actually heard it, you denied, and then immediately changed your tune.

I'm tripping over words here, it's been a strange week. Do I believe they've heard it if they say they have? Probably, but I certainly don't feel comfortable giving their opinions any weight at this point in time without any kind of proof. Like I said, far too many people are completely full of shit in this industry.
