Good Charlotte did it three times on The Young and The Hopeless, twice with the same band. Always liked the Minor Threat nod in The Anthem. Have never liked the Social Distortion nod and the second Minor Threat nod in Riot Girl.

Don't really ever listen to that record but for some reason that's the first one that came to mind that hadn't already been mentioned haha

 

They do it in 40z Dream too. It's not good. Hahah.

 

The 'popular' music press has always had a love hate relationship with blink. They love the drama and surrounding bullshit because it got them clicks, but have always been very middling towards the music.

 

Ugh yeah, totally forgot about that. Not looking forward to hearing that song again when I eventually hear the record haha.

 

It's annoyingly catchy. Hahaha. Like not in s good way. But also it's catchy. And awful. And catchy.

 

The idea of having joke songs still doesn't sit well with me. It just feels like they're trying to relive the earlier days of their career, instead of moving forwards. I worry that they'll turn into a nostalgia act (some would probably argue that they already have)...

 

I am worried Blink will take the "going-back in the day"-thing too seriously and eventually will go back too far and will become a Glam Metal band.

Like TSOL.

 

Agreed. Joey Cape is super underrated as a songwriter, in my opinion.

 

On the subject of referencing I've always liked "put Walk Among Us on and turn it up" in We've Had Enough

 

Jimmy Eat World's "I pick up put down the phone like your favourite Heatmiser song goes. It's just like being alone" is my favourite band reference I can think off the top o the dome.

 

Did we just become best friends? Yep! Hate those two songs.

 

I mean, not from the exact scene, but Gaslight built a career on referencing Bruce and Petty and The Clash and Soul artist. And I love them for it.
