Beyoncé is the only pop star I can think of who pulls off privacy while retaining relevancy. I definitely think Taylor could do it too.

Don't u dare pretend u didn't laugh when Taylor couldn't come to the phone Don't. You. Dare!!!

Tbh I don't think the album cycle is much deeper than she got some backlash and is overexposed and knew she needed to step it back a bit with promo to curb it. Beyonce's image works because her image is mysterious and Queen B and like surreally famous to the point of like other worldly. Taylor's whole shtick is relatable and one of the awkward girls just like u except famous and rich and beautiful, and imo that makes it more difficult to accept the image she's trying to do now. Like she cultivated the press storm around herself and encouraged it for years, so her shutting it all down and pretending she's above it all I guess just comes off insincere. Which I'm sure all celebs are so whatevs.

Taylor is hard to gauge because she's insanely private but also trolls Tumblr for attention and invites random people to her house for listening parties, she also always looks kinda awkward on stage like she'd much rather just be there with her guitar

Of course I laughed, but it was the weird goofy interlude break that's exactly the same as her last two leadoff singles (the "like... ever" voicemail in "WANEGBT" and "this. sick. beat." part of "Shake It Off"). We talked about this in the thread a lot when it first came out, but she essentially doubled down on the trajectory of her last two single release but went more rhythmic than melodic.

I agree with your take vis-a-vis blacklash. Feels like she realized that vindictive wasn't a good look for her on the initial album promo run, and you can already see her breaking the pattern to something more recognizable to earlier stuff (compare her tour announce to her album announce). The positivity "angle" (which also seems to be how she literally tries to interact with) will bring people back in; look at what Drake's doing with "God's Plan". People like to cancel and un-cancel pop stars these days.

Been running through the album a few times this week after not listening in a while. I seem to like it even more now. Not skipping anything other than Nice Things. Good driving record.

i’ve been meaning to tell you

I’ve liked all her vids for this album so far. Wasn’t expecting such a choreographed dance but it went pretty well.

  9. Video rules, probably my favorite of hers

She threw out the baggy gym shorts and didn't try to be all edgy or whatever so I will accept it for this era. Ngl I thought the plot would be that she would be convulsively leaping about and meet a dancing guy who felt the same and actually ~saw her and they'd do a more cutesy and less risque Shakira lo hecho esta hecho kinda thing

  11. Loved this video. The symbolism (finding freedom in invisibility - probs not an accident given how she disappeared after her stalker trouble and meeting someone when you're in that place) is very interesting.

Did that video have a choreographer. Some of the moves were an odd choice and I'm curious about who choreopgrahed it

Yeah but how many people were buying a copy of 25?

I bet that number is significantly higher.

Yea I'm sure it was, but Adele is a mind-boggling statistical anomaly. It genuinely makes no sense that she is able to move the number of units she moves in the 2010s. It's not even worth comparing other artists to her. Any artist who can move 1 million units in their first week is de facto one of the biggest artists of our time.
