Also, anybody wants to post about Bay Area venues I'd be unreasonably interested at well.

Last post of the night, I promise, but Oregon folks: is Eugene coming up in the world or something?

I know I'd occasionally see bands do one off dates in Bend or Salem, but it seems to me in the last couple months that I'm seeing a lot of smaller bands doing dates in Eugene, at venues I've never heard of before. Is that the case, or have I just not noticed?

Only I went down there was to see Deftones at Cuthbert Amphitheater, which was quite nice.

    Prestigious Prestigious

    Let’s give it a try!

Valley View: My least favorite venue in San Diego. $20 parking, awful acoustics

Viejas: another arena that has a somewhat intimate vibe for the size. $15 parking is pretty lame

Mattress Firm Ampitheater: free parking which is cool and it’s the closest venue to my house. It’s okay I guess. Draws a lot of crowds that don’t care about anything other than drinking, though

Che Cafe: only time I’ve been there is when I played there! It’s a neat little DIY spot. Always on the verge of shutting down for some reason

House of Blues (main stage): I’ve had some of my best concert experiences here. I’ve played it before so I know where musicians load their stuff and I’ve met artists pretty much anytime I’ve gone. Pretty great sound.

House of Blues (side stage): Goddamn this stage is tiny. I think like 200 people can fit there, but for some reason even if you’re like 3rd row you’ll have trouble seeing the performers. Idk why, maybe the stage is too low

Observatory: this is the current hip venue. I really like this place since we don’t really have many mid-sized venues, acts that would typically play much larger places are forced to play this 1k cap place. It’s a beautiful venue, the only problem is the security guards are assholes. I’m 21, and this dude in front of me was very clearly older than me but security was bending his ID pretty severely to see if it was real

Cal Coast: Beautiful venue. 5k cap I believe but you have an amazing view even from the nosebleeds

Eugene is the usual B-market I see on tours. I've been to Matthew Knight for some arena shows, McDonald Theater once a few years back (basically the Eugene version of the Hawthorne but with a barricade I think, idk it's been a while), and I know a few bands have been to Hi-Fi Music Hall a couple times.

Oh yeah, oh yeah, everything is terrible.

    Toronto/Hamilton

Air Canada Centre - 19000+, standard arena, can be hell to get into with a popular show, has decent but expensive food options and multiple merch setups that are almost always busy. Sound is decent but can be subpar and dampened depending on artist playing

Annex Wreckroom - 200 ish, upstairs venue, right in front of subway station. Merch in one corner, bar in another, stage right in front when you walk in, decent food right beside or around the corners. Basically a nightclub now

Budweiser Stage (Molson Ampitheater) - 16000, big outdoor ampitheater, right on Lake Shore Blvd so always busy as hell, extremely difficult to get out of if you leave when the show ends instead of a few songs early, go early if you have GA or lawn to find good spots. Multiple merch booths, stupid expensive beer, standard food options (burgers/pizza/chicken), right on the lake so venue can get sorta chilled, which is perfect if it's a hot summer show

Club Absinthe - 200 ish (give or take), downtown in the main busy area, extremely cramped venue and gets hot fast especially for punk/metal shows there. The second level is usually dedicated to merch but sometimes it's in the very back corner on the first floor and the upper level is a chill place to hang in between sets. Awesome fish and chips place or burger place right across from venue, and cheap parking lot/easy to get to from bus terminal (5 minute walk at most)

Copps Coliseum (FirstOntario Centre) - 17000+, big arena downtown, usually hosts country shows or big pop acts but gets big-name rock bands on occasion. Setup is either half bowl (vertical or horizontal) or full bowl, with GA for newer bands and seats for legacy acts. Good food options inside, including sponsored restaurant, expensive drinks, right between Jackson Square and other food places (Tim Hortons/Swiss Chalet)

Danforth Music Hall - 1500, one of my favourite venues, in the heart of Greektown so lots of local restaurants (and a handful of chains) and a restaurant inside the venue too. Can be GA or fully seated, but balcony/mezz seats are perfect if you don't wanna stand for hours. Merch is to the right when you get in, but can get so hectic you have to line up against the stairs to the balcony (sometimes bands set up in a back corner on the floor), sound is usually pretty good, and the floor is easy to move around to get closer but can get wild for some shows when everything kicks off

Downsview Park - biggest venue in Toronto, usually hosts festivals or big names (AC/DC, Radiohead). Either dry as hell or muddy as hell, and accessible right from the subway (granted only recently so getting there was a huge hassle before).

Echo Beach - 5000, GA venue to the right of Budweiser Stage, right on the lake. I love this venue if it's not too busy as the whole beach vibe in the summer is so nice and the sound can pretty good too

Fort York - 10,000 ish - around the corner from Exhibition Place, hosts festivals, easy to get around and hosts some kick-ass food trucks. Also can be easy to maneuver around people to be up close

Hamilton Place (FirstOntario Concert Hall) - 2000+, all seated, good sound, expensive snack options, right around the corner from Jackson Square/bus terminal. Cheap-ish parking lot by the venue but even better to park behind city hall and walk to venue

Hard Luck Bar - 200 ish, extremely tiny and sweaty, on Dundas St W (in Chinatown area) so lots of food options again after the show. One of my least faves to go to with muffled sound and cramped floor, not to mention fitting everyone in such a small space is brutal in the worst way

Kool Haus - 2500, torn down for a while now but decent GA venue, though it used to be tough to find a good standing spot. Got pretty hot inside too (passed out at first ever show here oops)

Lee's Palace - 550, if you don't show up early you aren't going to find a good place to stand. Having said that once you find a decent area to stand it's a cool venue to be in. Merch either right at the back or on the second level. On Bathurst St so more food options (poutine/starbucks/fast food chains)

Massey Hall - 2700+, old school legendary venue, great sound, basically any section you end up in (main floor/balcony/gallery) is perfectly fine, although seats can be pretty cramped (they plan to renovate them starting either this year or next), merch in the basement level

Mod Club - 600+, another favourite, although pretty cramped on the floor (balcony view much better). Merch at the back of the floor or to the right on a platform with some seating. On College St so lots of local restaurants/chains again, decent sound and best to access from public transit

Opera House - 950, always prefer when the balcony is open for this place, tough as hell to find decent standing spots on the main floor otherwise. Right on Queen St with a parking lot beside the venue that's always full so people park on side streets, merch on the left side after getting past security, decent sound

Phoenix Concert Theatre - 1350, kinda tough to get to (at least if you're doing public transit) but pretty cool setup when you're inside, generally a decent amount of standing room unless sold out and comfortable balcony/side boxes too, good sound as well, lounge area inside that hosts merch

REBEL (Sound Academy) - 3200+, super out of the way, always busy and almost always hectic at doors, used to be pretty bad sound and super uncomfortable on the floor but with renovations it's gotten better.

Rogers Centre - 53,000+, nosebleeds are the worst for this place, everything just echos constantly and you never get a clear sounding performance when you're up top. Floor sections generally divided up into GA pits and VIP pits, lots of food options inside the building (so good for Jays games), merch found outside and all around the place on each level

Smiling Buddha - 100 ish, it's just a tiny room, which is really the only way to describe it. Gets super hot inside and incredibly loud

Sneaky Dee's - 200+, similar to Smiling Buddha but slightly bigger, and the actual restaurant downstairs is so goddamn good

Sony Centre for the Performing Arts - 3000+, really cool sit-down venue (although doesn't compare to Massey Hall for me), good sound and comfortable seating, merch usually to the left of doors

A general thought about this venue discussion - could we possibly move it to its own thread going forward? I know I contributed to it yesterday in this particular thread, but I didn't think it would change the shift of the thread over the last few pages...it's starting to clutter things up a bit here. Plus, it would be a better resource going forward if it were actually labeled in its own unique thread as opposed to being on page X of the Tour Prediction and Speculation thread.

I'm responding to your snarky comment with a serious post because makes my thinking go in two directions as a result:

    1) I can't speak to what other posters have done, but everything I've ever posted in here has been straight from news sites and/or Facebook show postings that have popped up. I've never posted anything about, "I talked to member from X band, and they said they're opening for Y band with Z band on a small club run." That type of discourse, while occasionally fun, aren't productive at all. Look at the Warped Tour speculation thread for Exhibit A.

    2) All of this discussion has been productive. I'm not taking away from that at all. Burying it on page 538 (my settings) of a Tour Prediction and Speculation thread is silly though. Put it in its own location so people can actually utilize it as a resource and have productive conversations about it. Sorry my desire for organizing things kicked in. >_<
