Lincoln Hall is the best venue in Chicago. Probably been to the Bottom Lounge the most times. I actually like the HOB. Aragon is fine as long as you're in the middle and not off to one side. Every show I've been to at the Metro has kinda sounded like garbage.

    These are all my #takes

    Gonna do Minneapolis:

Myth Live: Standard large nightclub, ~3000 cap, large stage, multiple ramps and levels. Hardly a bad spot in the house. Good acoustics, and the stage can be reconfigured smaller for more intimate-feeling shows.

Amsterdam Bar & Hall: Basically your standard downtown restaurant that just clears out it's tables for shows. No barricade, 3 foot high stage. Good architecture lots of windows, booths, but I assume it would be rough to be further in the back.

Cabooze: Small bar venue, next to a real bar. Real solid acoustics, 4 foot stage, 3 foot from stage barrier. Only problem is that it's just a rectangular room, with the stage judding out into the room on the center of the wider side.

First Avenue: Historic venue. Lots of spaces and cool layout. Really not much to say other than it has a great floor layout, good sound, and fun architecture.

Palace Theater: Pretty venue, great acoustics. Closer in size to First Ave, but feels like the Myth.

Triple Rock (R.I.P.): I only got to see one show there before it closed, but the venue is next to the legendary bar. Just a pit/floor in front of the stage a few steps down from a merch/bar area. I found it funny they had a vending machine for strings and gear. There were stairs that went straight from the floor to the stage and were ideal for crowdsurfing.

I agree with all of this actually. I really love Lincoln Hall. HOB isn't nearly as bad as people make it out to be. My only problem with it is if you can't get on the main floor it becomes an overpacked shit show, but as long as you're on the floor I really like it. Never have problems at Aragon. I have a love/hate with the Metro because I've seen some awesome shows there (blink-182, Fall Out Boy, Motion City's final show), but I also find it to be one of the more awkward venues. I don't like the oval shape it has going on and it's hard to get in and out of the main room.

I personally can’t stand The Beacham, mostly because I feel it’s not made to be a concert venue. It’s a dance club with a big stage that happens to hold enough people for larger shows. I will agree that HOB is pretty great, but only if you get there early enough for a decent view (if you’re not in the pit, which I avoid).

It is exactly the same aside from the slightly bigger stage and some paintings they did. Balcony is still there. They took down that Knuckle Puck flag tho...

I went to see Enter Shikari at The Metro a few weeks ago and while one of the opening bands were playing i noticed there was a guy not far from me that there was a guy that was acting really strange, i wasn't sure if he was high, drunk or just a weird person.

5 minutes after that, while a band was playing (i think it was Single Mothers), i saw a security guard escorting him out. I asked another security guard what happened and he said the guy was drunk as hell.

Also, at a Chevelle show a few months back at HOB (It was sold out and we were all packed in there like crazy) many people started shoving other people around before Chevelle went on stage, and that caused a big chaos. A few times it lead to a fight and security swooped in and kicked out whoever was causing the problem.

I get that people don't like to be treated "rudely" (as they say... BTW, americans are blowing the whole "rude" thing out of proportions), but they are doing an important job and they are there to take care of us and people are forgetting that, and a lot of times the reason is they are spoiled brats.

David's booked me at all the venues I mentioned, haha. Bar Le Ritz is another really good one- a mutual friend owns it I think- great tap selection, cool design. i played there last year with Dune Rats & DZ Deathrays from brisbane, and the FB event had like 40 people attending week of the show, and it somehow ended up nearly selling out (~350-400 cap?). definitely one of my favourite shows I've played in a while. I think every australian in montreal came out. they do a lot of cool dance parties & non-concert events that i keep getting invited to, but can never make. very cool scene surrounding that venue.

Not a big La Vitrola fan- owned by the same people as Casa and Sala, but it's up like 4 flights of narrow stairs, the sound's never been super great, and there's a "side stage" perpendicular with the main stage, so you have this big open space in the venue, so it looks emptier than it is. it's also located in a transportation bermuda triangle for me where it's like a 30 minute walk from my house (no-no in any month between like december and may), and it's a 20 minute walk from the metro station, so it's a pain to get to, versus any of the other venues that are like a 10 minute walk from my house, or right next to a metro.

also, by this post I'm sure you can tell I suffer from city privilege, haha. I see people talking about "only" driving 3 hours for a show, but I will miss a show if the venue is a decent walk from a metro station or if it's too cold out. RIP

The Abbey has started doing a lot of shows this year and its probably my favorite venue in Orlando. It’s slightly bigger than the Social, really nice on the inside, Good sound, and no barricade or security preventing stagediving

Crystal ballroom and roseland are at the bottom of my list for very small reasons: crystal is too stretched out so even if you push forward you’re still really far back.

Roselands entire policy around alcohol is infuriating.

Also, I saw LVL UP at the star theater and, I don’t know if they just remodeled it or something, but that may be my favorite venue in portland. It’s like a clean version of the Hawthorne.

Analog: Awful if the show is sold out/the band is way to popular to be playing there. If it isn't sold out you could probably have a pretty good time, since it won't be too crowded and you can actually see. The first 3-4 rows are your best chance at being able to see the show though.

Hawthorne: My personal favorite, but I know other people don't like it. Stage is perfect amount from the ground, no barricade, security hasn't ever gave me trouble, located in a good spot in Portland.

Moda Center: Small arena (compared to other cities), crappy seats, but if you can do GA it isn't awful.

Memorial Colosseum: Only been once to see Slipknot, but it wasn't bad. Stage setup wasn't awful and there was a seated area in the back for people that wanted to sit but were in GA.

Roseland: Located directly downtown in Portland so it isn't my favorite. Sold out shows can get unbearably bad if the crowd is high energy enough. There is no fan or A/C that I know of (at least there wasn't when I saw Amon Amarth), and it gets uncomfortably hot. But I've seen quite a few great shows here.

Bossonova: Located in probably the worst spot, both part of town and how to find it. Very hole in the wall feel. I'd probably go more often if it wasn't in such a terrible spot downtown. Seems more like an alternative if you can't book Hawthrone (similar capacity).

Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall: Nice sit down place for laid back shows. Saw Smashing Pumpkins do an electro-acoustic show there and had no complaints. Saw Alice In Chains do a normal set there a few months later and if you were in the wrong spot at the right time you had a good chance of having the lights shown right on your face (and that shit was blinding).

I haven't been to Wonder Ballroom or Crystal Ballroom yet, so I can't really comment on them. I can't remember other venues I've been to in Portland off the top of my head either.

Most venues will give you water but you have to tip, they just put water out, the only other venue in orlando that does that is Will's

    music is all we got

Portland has the best venues imo. One thing I've noticed is that Portland/the PNW in general has a lot more no-barricade venues than other parts of the country. Like the same tours that hit up big venues with barricades end up at the Hawthorne or the Wonder, both sans barricade. Like I saw KP at The Masquerade in Atlanta and the Hawthorne here on the same tour.

That being said, I'm seeing a sold out Tiny Moving Parts show upstairs at the Analog tonight and I'm Not Stoked about how cramped that room is gonna be lol

Still thinks the stage is in the dumbest place ever and sound is hit or miss. Staff is nice though.
