Oh that's right, something they said at a show about it being a really old song he wrote right?

I feel like they said Vinny wrote the song, not neccisarily the lyrics....If Vin did write them, it’s hard not imagine them being from the POV of Jesse in some spots..

The last part of the song just sounds like its aimed at Jesse, though. I used to think it was just the ‘little voice’ in the back of the mentally ill person’s mind where they’re convinced their support structure is getting sick of helping them and etc., but knowing what we know now about everything and what the band apparently went through in the years around/after Daisy, I can’t shake the feeling that it’s just straight up some hate mail from Vin to Jesse.

I tried not to get into the over analyzing lyrics thing after this hit but the first verse of Jesus is straight up creepy now. I haven’t listened to any pre-SciFi since the news broke, with the exception of a couple songs that came up on shuffle, but was thinking about the lyrics to that song today and...yeesh.

Trying to ascribe every lyric to what happened is fruitless at best and mind numbingly cringeworthy at worst

So, I left this thread forever ago now. Did the rest of the band ever say anything? Or have they remained cowards? Has any more come out? Or has it been mostly silent on any new articles or statements?

The band never said anything and not much has come out other than a more detailed account from one of the victims.

    Figures. Chicken shit cowards.

I went back one page and saw that shit article defending Jesse. I only read part of it because it was just so bad.

It came across like the author was bothered about still listening to the band, and rather than just dropping them (such as people like I did) they decided to harm their soul by actively defending a predator.

If someone still listens, that’s their call. But if listening makes you defend him? You are lost and not worth anyone’s time.

    all we have is time

I think there is a video of Jesse saying that Vinny literally wrote all the music and all the lyrics, and that it’s probably Jesse’s favorite BN song.

Chris Carrabba was asked about the BN stuff in this interview: Dashboard Confessional, Emo’s King of Pain, Rises Again

You toured with Brand New. What was your reaction to the allegations against Jesse Lacey? [In November, the singer was accused of sexual improprieties by a woman who said he solicited nude pictures from her when she was a minor. He released a statement apologizing for his behavior without directly addressing the allegation. No charges have been filed.]

I think it is abhorrent, shocking.

    Were you surprised by it?

I was surprised by it, because in this case, I never saw anything that would indicate that. I haven’t spoken to Jesse about it, as we haven’t really spoken that much in years. As part of the scene — I don’t mean outside of it being a band they looked up to, I mean being one of the kids in it — I don’t know how to not be offended by it. First, I was a fan in that scene, then I was somebody that people were fans of. I remained a fan in that scene too. We had a trust.

There was a morality to it.

I felt that’s what made us different than other scenes. We were the answer to the rock ’n’ roll cliché, I thought.

Have these topics been an active subject of conversation between you and your peers?

Well, between me and my friends.

What about people who are in the scene in some form or another?

No, it seems uncomfortable when I’ve tried to talk to some of them about this. They seem as concerned, but I think that nobody knows how to come to grips with the idea that our scene was a place that something like this could happen. It’s shameful. I don’t want to believe that my part of the circle of fans were treated that way or felt that way at shows. I feel like we’re there to take care of each other.

That’s what the ethics of a scene really should be.

Like if I see a fight break out, I’ll stop the show and say, “Stop the fight. Is everyone O.K.?” It’s our responsibility — not just the bands, anybody that’s proactive in the scene — it’s our collective responsibility to say, in all situations, “Are you O.K.?” I just didn’t know I had to say it about this stuff. I didn’t know.

I hope fans and bands alike are becoming less naive about the safety of our scene and realizing this stuff has been here all along and we need to get rid of it

Apparently he also said: "I know Rose McGowan is upset, but why can't I say 'me too' in regards to the horrible Jawbreaker movie she did."

I'm on the Pale Waves and Now, Now threads almost exclusively. Thought I'd unfollowed this a while ago, but came back to a notification about Jesse now being a rapist too? Wow.

Wait theres a rape allegation too? Wow. I wrote this band off as soon as the first reports broke in November, didn't think it could get worse than that.

As far as I'm aware, I think he was being deliberately hyperbolic to get a reaction from the crowd. I could be wrong, but I've gone from being on the supporter thread for this band to knowing absolutely nothing. Maybe there's been new allegations or whatnot. Can anybody confirm this?

I don't recall any rape allegations, but I could be wrong.

I mean telling someone who works taking professional pics of your band that you're gonna restrict access if they don't stay with you in a sexual relationship is pretty much rape

And even if you don't believe that's rape, the patterns of behavior laid out in the accounts we have highly suggest there are many more victims, I think it's pretty likely he's assaulted someone based on what we know. But I also consider what he did rape.

I’d also like to point out that any allegation of sexual impropriety with someone under the age of 17 would make him a statutory rapist.

So, it’s possible that, given the ages of those involved, this was what he was referencing.
