im finally listening to this, im about half way through and feeling this. it feels like the last album was just condensed to be a little less messy, but also generally more optimistic than the last one too. this isn't what i expected (i didn't listen to the singles) but i enjoy it a lot so far

i feel like that was just an ironic and tongue in cheek nod to his reflexive habit of undermining the shit he cares about -- sam has pretty regularly over the years talked about how he isn't a fan of his own sincerity bc he isn't sure why he should feel self important enough to think his thoughts matter, but i get what you mean too. don't think it undermines the whole essay though

I hear this as being the new generations bright eyes. Maybe I’m off, but just the vibe I get

been listening to this so much. Beautiful acoustic tracks, diy rock shit, weird synths, a fucking jungle tune... Sam threw everything at the wall and somehow it works

For anyone that’s new to Sam’s work, the Julia Brown records are essential. His best work, especially the first one (though I’ve not heard this yet).

Ricky eat acid is his best work by far imo but that's way more my style than his other stuff

REA is sick too, that track that samples Drake is one of the best. I think he found a really organic mix of the REA style and the more indie rock or w/e style of his other work on the last JB record.

I dont really hear bright eyes but there are some real shoegazy moments on this album. Not a fan of everything on this but when it gets good, its really good. I liked the last album but this one feels more concise, more fully realized.

i didnt mean it sounded like bright eyes, i meant more this could be the next generations bright eyes, like the indie band that sort of really grabs a hold of an audience and gains a cult following
