I was gonna say Celtic Frost and it's on that list. Not really classic though.

Morbid Tales and To Mega Therion are classics though IMO. The influenced those two records had on all subgenres of extreme metal is pretty much undeniable.

actually looking at that list is a good start but man there are so many things that could be added. I can dig up my old list of 100 metal albums I did for a listening experiment if anyone is interested. But out of that list, my personal top 5 I'd listen to first are:

Bolt Thrower - Realms of Chaos (they're not even on the list, tragic)/death
Dissection - Storm of the Light's Bane/melodic black
Manila Road - Crystal Logic/epic heavy
Morbid Angel - Altars of Madness/death
Sodom - Agent Orange (instead of Persecution Mania)/thrash

I blame the faceless for the saxophone solo, this better not be a trend in tech death

why hasn't this been posted yet (or did I miss it)? I'm hearing bits of anti-flag in there and I love it.

I got knocked out by a dude in a calbian shirt at a show once, he was really sorry about it afterwards

I have to admit, there were a number of albums on the posted list that are considered essential that I did NOT enjoy after an initial listen. Everything from Exodus, Dissection, Darkthrone, and this album included. This one in particular I hated at first but I gave it additional listens because it was intriguing and far outside my comfortable listening zone

Adding on to releases for this year:

New Ihsahn in May. I'm one of those guys that instantly love/hate an album...I hated arktis but man did it grow on me. That means something.

The Ocean with new shit in late 2018 early 2019

New Psycroptic? But they're touring heavily this summer so we'll see

Yeah it’s certainly not “enjoyable” but I enjoy how terrifying it sounds. I prefer Jesu but I like both

Streetcleaner is good but Pure is the best Godflesh record imo. That being said, I've always enjoyed Jesu a lot more than Godflesh. Justin K Broadrick is a goddamn genius either way ha.

Yeah those glam records are not great.

I think reinventing the steel is really underrated. It not their best by any means but it is a very solid release.

What’s everyone’s fav Pantera album? Mines Trendkill, I love all the southern influences that really shone through on that album and it’s ridiculously heavy in some places.

Gotta be Far Beyond Driven for me. Trendkill is close. “Floods” is a masterpiece. Those two album go to some pretty eerie and unsettling places both musically and lyrically w/r/t Phil’s addiction.

Plus, the breakdown in “Strength Beyond Strength” is hard as hell
