I think the real point of contention is that the band experimented a lot on NCTH and they seem to never get credit for it. In fact, they actively get criticized for "stagnating" instead. NCTH has a few songs with the band's classic sound ("I Don't Like Who I Was Then" being the main one) but is also a clear stepping stone from TGG to what it seems like Sister Cities will sound like. This new direction doesn't happen without what they tried on NCTH.

Sad I couldn’t order a preorder due to not knowing where I’ll be living in April

Master of not knowing what the hell I'm doing.

Holy shit that's some crazy depth for an 11 track album. Really interested to be able to look over this

All I'm going to see re: NCTH is that Palm Reader was not given nearly enough credit.

I thought NCTH was boring as hell. It sounded so close to what came before for me.

Guys NCTH was near-perfect (minus production).

I'll be honest: I didn't get the same feeling with Sister Cities that I did when I heard Cardinals for the first time, but it's growing on me. Looking forward to April.

TGG is much closer in sound to Suburbia than it is to NCTH. And yet NCTH is accused of stagnation but TGG is generally considered their best album.

I'm not suggesting that TGG is bad, it's not; it probably is their best album (so far). And I would never personally refer to any TWY record as boring or stagnant because I love them all. But let's be honest here.

I mean I think TGG is awful so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yeah, I'm thinking this band may not be for you anymore then, if it ever was.

My problem with NCTH is that every time I try to listen to it, I literally get a headache. I don't know if it's something with the mix or if I'm just an old man. It does have a few jams on it though

Agree with this re: Cardinals. Remember it came out when I was lying in bed in bollock freezing Concepcion, towards the south of Chile. Listened twice and thought, holy fuck this is good. Then I heard it playing in the room down the hall, as one of my best friends had woken up and discovered it at the same time too. A great memory.

But still enjoying this new song, even if it’s not as ‘big’. Love the video too.

NCTH was a step down from TGG which was a step down from suburbia
