I had a three hour lab when those were released so I missed them, so sad.

They wrote TAITA in 5 minutes. That's why VHEISSU got all the time in the world.

I've noticed the people who love TAITA the most were first introduced to the band via TAITA. If you listened pre-TAITA, I think your expectations would've been greater (and not met) at the time.

I got in towards the end of Vheissu and saw them live fight as Fire/Water came out. I back tracked and fell in love. Vheissu is their best no doubt, but calling Artist awful is just incorrect no matter how you justify it.

It's just too good of an album from a song writing stand point and most bands would kill to have an album this good.

Or maybe TAITA is just a good album.

Also I don't understand that logic..... Illusion and Artist are the two albums in their discography that are the most alike.... so if you liked Illusion, wouldn't Artist be what you expected?

I got into them with TAITA and it’s lower tier Thrice for me.

Fire is my favorite because it's so heavy but not in the metalcore way like artist, fire is the kind of album that made way for bands like obrother

It's good, not great. It's too one note and unlike their later albums doesn't stick out above their peers at the time, it simply exists among them as being one of the better albums in the genre. But it wasn't head and shoulders above, say, underoath

I just found out the other day that avenged sevenfold did a lot of the waking the fallen demos with Teppei, thought that was cool.

I guess my controversial thrice take is that Vheissu is not the magnum opus it's made out to be. It was a leap coming off artist but just the beginning of Thrice becoming the poster boys for experimentation and sound progression. Beggars is their opus to me, with alchemy very close behind. Too early to call TBEITBN that kind of album but it's also a "return" album so I expect the next albums post-hiatus will continue on their normal trend of experimenting. Which, TBEITBN is my second or third favorite, so you could say I'm hype as fuck for their career moving forward

You just made like 4 perfect takes in a row. Vheissu is the gateway not the opus. A masterpiece, but not THE masterpiece. Beggars as a refinement of everything up to it is their finest moment.

Yep it's the stepping stone into the band they became. A transition point if you will

I agree. They really just kept getting better and better with each release ending with Beggars. M/M was a hiccup, but the new one made up for it

i dont see m/m as a hiccup even if i dont love it. it was more of the end of an era, and not every cap to an era is a huge great thing.

Although I don't think Illusion is a good album at all. It's pretty mediocre and hasn't held up well. Artist is good, but definitely not as great as it's made out to be because of reasons pointed out by sophos

This is fair. Perhaps side-step is more accurate to what I meant. In fact, I would compare Thrice's M/M in their discography to Circa's Violent Waves in their doscography

yeah very good comparison. or common existence in thursdays discog, although CE is way better than m/m, its caught between two much better albums

I can't get behind Vheissu not being their most experimental. Beggars and TBEITBN are fantasic albums, but for the most part straight forward rock songs. More Illusion and Artist slander too.....

I've seen them live 3 times (all opening for Thrice) and never got the feel of the Fire album. I'll have to give them another chance.

I listened to their first album in the Chorus Music Club and the first thing I noticed was the little Fire album sounds.
