Honestly though I can't think of a player I'd want at #4 overall that would fix our team more than Deshaun Watson has. Maybe a top DB? But even that is risky and I'd prefer Watson.

At #36 overall over getting rid of Osweiler's contract is a different story but I guess that's why we got to extend Hopkins AND get rid of Rick Smith so that worked out too.

Quenton Nelson this year.
Sign Cousins.

So let's play cause and effect:

2017:
1. Draft Tre'Davious White - Possibility he's good for us, possibility he looks like shit in Mike Vrabel's Defense.
2. Don't draft Deshaun Watson - We end up starting Savage at QB, he looks like shit, who in the hell comes in relief, Bill O'Brien is gone and we have zero reason for a HC to want to sign with us. We likely end up being the team with Vrabel at HC.
3. EITHER: Hopkins ends up walking because our money is being saved for Cousins, OR Clowney ends up walking because our money is being saved for Cousins. Injury prone Will Fuller and practice squad WR Bruce Ellington are our top 2 WRs.

We're in pretty good shape at CB at this point very likely, we may have a good guard if we draft Quinton Nelson, we'd likely have a terrible head coach because no one would believe in what we're building around and our job wouldn't be appealing enough for the McDaniels' of the league, we'd be cleaning house yet again across the ENTIRE FO, watching a boring ass QB, wasting the end of Watt's career with overpaid free agents, and we'd end up back at square one.

No, I'd rather have hope.

 

It's important for me to want to enjoy watching my team and "sign Kirk Cousins" is the complete opposite of that to me. We've signed FA QBs for the entirety of the Texans existence. It's worth taking a shot once and not having couple draft picks once to have a QB that can be a long term solution. If we drafted White and signed Cousins and lost BOB and Hopkins, people would be asking why we still haven't drafted a QB while BOB is getting offers from better teams, building them into contenders and we have nothing to look forward to. I do think Cousins is a good QB, and also think he'd completely bust in Houston. There's no point in mortgaging half the roster for him.

 

I completely agree. You made the right choice Dustin. That's why I'm leaning towards Bortles. Historically, teams burdened by QB contracts don't fair well.

 

We do also have 3 (or more but likely just 3) third rounders this year which is probably enough to move up a decent way into the 2nd, and if there's someone Gaine really likes that can improve our team there I'd like to see it happen. Otherwise I don't mind staying put with 3 3rds either.

 

So Mike McGlinchey fell to the Jaguars in B/R's latest mock. That would be so absurd.

Also, I went through eight mocks today and Arden Key wasn't a first rounder in FIVE of them. That's fucking stupid lol.

 

any mock that has Q. Nelson to Miami at 11 is doing it wrong IMO

Gase has proven time and again he doesn't value guard highly. Not saying I agree with him, but still

 

Nelson is dope af and may be an exception. But also they're doing it wrong because he's a top talent.
