I kinda think Geoff doesn't sound as anthemic and strong on we will overcome as the music implies he should be. On the chorus specifically, just that

The final chorus where it's like a choir hits it perfectly imo

a song like running from the rain was a really radical departure for this band

Running From The Rain is beautiful, particularly the chorus and outro. Might be my favorite Thursday song actually

Yeah, I kind of think that's why it doesn't hit as strong in the other choruses -- the last one has his voice surrounded by people which brings the theme home. It's really only when he says "we will overcome" that I feel that way, the rest of it is fine

the vocal reverb tricks on telegraph avenue kids are also trippy as shit. it was really bold for a band like them to play with atmosphere on ACBTLD and CE and then No Dev were pushing that idea to its extreme

the bridge of telegraph avenue kiss is one of the most climactic moments on this album

Speaking of choruses, telegraph avenue kiss is one of their most infectious imo but I'm a sucker for choruses that spell stuff

I think one of my favorite single moments in their discography will always be the, “Holy, holy, lift up your dress,” from Sugar in the Sacrament. So many little places that are really underrated and just so gorgeous.

    Fifty red roses falling apart
In the hands of someone that you scraped in and left behind
All of the others strolled up and now showed up at your door
    Staring you down, they said

Sing for me, sing for me, sing for me now
Sing for me, sing for me, sing for me now

    slay me

into the blinding light is the best penultimate track ever recorded, its the second best song this band ever wrote, everything about it is flawless and ill tell you why

the concept of overwhelming intense light being just as claustrophobic and scary as intense deep darkness is perfectly executed in the sonics of this song, its unrelenting and intense but its not overtly dark, its loud and noisy and floods the senses in a completely different way, and it builds and builds at the end as it closes in on you more and more for a really really intense build into the release of the intro of autumn leaves, the perfect transition into the finale.

not much to say about autumn leaves that hasnt already been said its the perfect closer its a stunner its unreal it makes me tear up every time

there must be somewhere that cigarettes burn through the night
where the leaves dont abandon their trees to the light
    where the sky's always clear
    and the summer never ends
    wont you take me there?

    geoff's imagery is unmatched

Every single shell was once alive
Just like the two of us
We step into the shallow end
To see what love is like
At the water's edge our lives wash up
    The tide keeps rolling out
    But now we're nothing
Now you're nothing but grains of sand

seashells hints at a whole other direction they could've gone with a piano being the main backdrop of the track

but alas the heaviest song on this album is next, past and future ruins, a real fucking monster of a track, i remember they released it before the album and my head was absolutely blown off after first listen, i couldnt believe they still had a track like this in them after all these years
