I've owned TOYPAJ since the day it came out and it took until probably 2010 for me to get into "Everytime I Look For You". I have zero explanation on the 9 year delay, but when it clicked it became one of my all-time fav Blink tracks.

I pretty much agree except I would switch Peggy Sue in the songs I love and move Depends into songs I dislike. I actual think this album is a bit underrated now. It's definitely near the bottom of their catalog but there are a lot of hidden gems on it and it really makes me miss old Tom's guitar playing.

TOYPAJ was the first blink album that I got the day it was released. It's such a great fun summer album. Like Enema, the transitions between songs are near perfect. The non-joke bonus songs are so good too I wish they all found a way on the regular album.

Definitely interesting to go back and read Mark's comments about how tough the recording process was and how much tension there was between him and Tom that he felt like after the TOYPAJ tour ended in 2001 that there was an unspoken feeling that the band was over.

Do you know where to find his comments about TOYPAJ? I don’t think I’ve ever read them.

I honestly can't remember where I read about Mark saying he felt like blink ended after the TOYPAJ tour, it could have been the Pop Disaster Tour though too, which would make more sense because that's after the whole BCR stuff and Tom on pills. I thought it was Wikipedia but I surfed through all the blink related wiki-pages and can't find the actual quote but it was basically "After the tour it really felt like blink-182 was over but no one wanted to say it or admit it".

Yeah sign me up for those along with Dude Ranch, Untitled and the pre-California demos.

I'm actually surprised that the TOYPAJ demos never leaked. I wonder how the Enema demos did.

When TOYPAJ sounds so good I really have no desire to listen to the demos tbh

  12. I really just want to hear the differences between the demos and the studio versions, such as changes in melodies, lyrics, arrangements, etc. Basically I want to hear what is the band on their own vs. them with Jerry's input and guidance.

Yeah the Enema demos are super interesting to listen to because there are a lot of changes between the demos and the finished product.

It's crazy that after all of that time writing together and finally making it big, they only lasted two more albums together before breaking up.

But also, looking back on that take from Mark, it's no surprise that California came out the way it did. Kind of sounds like he always wanted more of that straightforward sound despite eventually doing +44.

So... seeing as we're approaching 2 years since the release of Bored to Death, when do you guys think we'll hear news from them on their plans for the next album? (Yes, I know it hasn't even been a year since the Deluxe album, but still.)

The crazier thing is watching any interview, live show or Urethra Chronicle DVD and seeing just how close they were as friends you'd never believe that they would end up the way they did. I remember when Jason Newstead left Metallica in 2001ish or anytime a band broke up and thinking something like that would never happen to blink because Mark and Tom are just so close. It really bums me out thinking about the pre BCR era and how close they were.

Hopefully soon. Whether it's blink or Alkaline Trio, I just want to hear some type of announcement. It seems like Mark is starting to write new music and Matt definitely is. Mark has said numerous times he wants blink to get back on a 2 year album cycle again so we'll see.

I also remember him saying something about wanting to experiment more and work in a house like untitled? Or am I wrong there? I'll look for a source on that.

EDIT: Found one.. Blink 182 discuss plans for their 'experimental' next album - NME

Yeah he definitely mentioned experimenting more but I don't recall the house thing. The house stuff was talked about before Tom left/quit so maybe that's what you're remembering.

  20. Put Mark, Matt, Travis, and Tom in a house together for a month with Bill Stevenson behind the board, and give me whatever the fuck that ends up becoming. K theeeenks!

Can Tom and Travis finally go to the water park together too?

I’d be for that minus Tom.

  23. No. They must only stay in the house. They can go to the water park after the album is finished. I GUESSSSSSS....

Adding to Tom to any scenario is an instant pass for me.
