Most people do it by U.S. release date, which makes it a 2017 film.

This is very true, although I always thought the narrative was just born out of the shock value of someone being nominated 14 times and never winning, as opposed to specific instances of being "snubbed" in favor of someone less deserving.

It's just an honor to be nominated

  4. John Williams has to have the most nominations, right? He's got like 35.

Yea, the third one but many see the win as honoring the achievements of the whole trilogy

  9. I remember when Return of the King swept all 11 of its nominations. I was a hyped young almost-teenager.

That makes sense. It's one of my favorite trilogies (and a great movie on it's own, minus the 100 times it should have ended). But definitely not the type of movie I normally think of when I hear "Academy Award Winner for Best Picture". That's awesome.

Also, goddamn I can't believe Return of the King came out 14 years ago.

I think Fellowship of the Ring was the last movie I watched on VHS.

I saw Fellowship at a theater last week and I had to remind myself it came out like sixteen years ago. I felt so old.

And it was all filmed in like 99-2000. That series makes me feel so old

all three LOTR movies are Very Very Very good. And still good. Two Towers is the best though. Also, much as I enjoy the extra stuff, the theatrical cuts are better than the extended versions.

I think Fellowship is the best, tbh

  19. The scene where theoden is getting his armor put on and says how did it come to this is my favorite scene in those movies.

Two Towers is an unreal movie. Def the best one.

  21. Finally watched Darkest Hour. It was ok. Haven't seen Phantom Thread yet or Roman J. Israel, Esq., but it seems like Oldman is trying the hardest to get that Oscar. I still prefer John Lithgow's performance as Churchill.

I don’t want to rip Del toro, because he’s amazing, and I know the Oscars are mostly politics, but every other nominee in that category is more deserving.
