i wanted to see them play Decline of a Midwestern Civilization so fucking bad for years

 

I can't imagine listening to it more than once anyway. But if you can't hear those melodies, you've never listened to NFG. It's clearly mimicking it. Which is fine, most bands of that ilk do, but if you're gonna do it you should be a better singer or better at your instruments ... otherwise it just sounds like old Cartel demos.

 

I thought NFG was beyond reproach.

i disagree that fireworks are better (though their best songs are better than almost every non-classic NFG song), but thinking that fireworks and nfg sound similar is the pop punk hot take version of saying "oh it has yelling in it so it's all the same. converge, asking alexandria, same shit bro"

This is just silly. They do sound similar, you can hear them literally take NFG vocal melodies and barely tweak them. Of course that's going to sound similar. This is not remotely close to hearing two bands screaming and thinking they're the same.

People want to elevate Fireworks cause they like them and don't like NFG. But this isn't some super advanced pop-punk. It's the same sorta stuff every band made in 2000-2006.

I say this all the time but the chorus riff on Glowing Crosses always sounded a lot like "Anywhere With You" by STD to me.

 

I personally like NFG and Fireworks, but NFG are the OGs who are still doing it.

 

i remember the time that i said "i have moved past pop punk". it was the first time i heard Story So Far's Under Soil and Dirt. what a bad band
