Either they couldn't get who they wanted or they're trying to tank

I think Vogel wanted more money, and McMillan didn't command the same kind of salary. Pacers have always been notoriously cheap and this saves money. I wouldn't be shocked at all if that's what happened. Reports yesterday said they hadn't even begun a coaching search.

Gotta appreciate that news being posted right after "Poor Patrick Ewing." What a joke.

So the ownership let a good coach go because they wouldn't pay him? That's pretty dumb. I've seen McMillan as a head coach for several years... It isn't pretty. Is Indiana ownership notably cheap or something?

Yeah, Simon refuses to let the team go into the luxury tax, by even a dime. Bird has supposedly clashed with him before about getting free agents to come here.

This is either about not paying Vogel, or Bird and Vogel simply didn't get on. I can't see it being about literally anything but one of those.

That's ridiculous, what if he won that playoff series? Lol

Who even knows at this point.

It's been a couple years of Vogel being reported as one of the most underpaid coaches in the NBA, so it would've been super interesting to see what it came to if they went deeper in the playoffs in a year when his contract expired.

That's so disappointing. Indy gonna drive out George with this mediocrity.

He's also not a "new voice" like Bird said was his #1 reason for changing things. This is about money, I'd almost guarantee it.

  11. Larry Bird is a bad GM

  12. I read somewhere JVG is the front-runner for the Houston job. I don't see him and Harden being the best match.

Hes not leaving. In fact the NBA should give him a giant extension because hes the most entertaining game caller they have by a long shot.

  14. Isn't he contracted by ESPN, who is already letting go of people because they're broke?

Well he works all the big games even when they're on other networks so I dont know. He just does all the big NBA games. Maybe I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure. No idea who literally signs the contract. Also it would be really dumb to leave that job for Houston.

    Major fail for Indiana. Geez.

  17. His contract is with ESPN. I'm 99% sure he doesn't do games for anyone else. Regardless, I agree with you in that I wouldn't leave tv for another coaching job. But those guys have a different mindset and competitive drive. He may want to prove he's still got it or something. Who knows.

What the hell is he going to talk about for two months? I thought it was starting in the fall.

  22. If any of the players had answered the questions the way Pop did they'd be destroyed by the media. A coach does it and you're a clown for saying he was out of line.

Both wrong, both deserve to be talked about negatively. Doug gottlieb is usually good about games and stuff but not about media, he just spews hot takes.

I didn't see what exact answers they're referring to, so I don't know if he was rude or not, but as long as you're not being a dick, then people should have every right to give non-answers if they want to. Postgame pressers are mostly superfluous anyway. Same way people got up in arms about Marshawn Lynch. If people don't wanna do media and give the absolute minimum, then that's fine by me as long as they're not going out of their way to be an asshole.

  25. I agree with this, but Pop was definitely being an asshole.

The act itself is nothing to be overly upset about. He was a dick, it sucks but it happens. I just hate how players and coaches are held to such different standards.
