I mean if they were to play another show I highly doubt it would be a festival at this point as (a) promoters of the festival wouldn't want to deal with the backlash and they have to sell far more tickets than a single Brand New show (b) from the bands perspective, it is far more likely non-fans would be there to boo them off the stage

    all we have is time

sadly i'd like to think that if they had no plans of continuing, they would've just issued a final statement from the band.

Why would they? They know that no matter what they say it's not the right thing. They'd be setting themselves up for a stoning. On top of that, this band already never communicated or spoke on plans to begin with. Think they will now?

My point is that if they had no plans of playing another show then why not just be conclusive, do the right thing and have a comment from the rest of the band announcing that they'll be stepping down? Who cares about "setting themselves up for a stoning" if the band is done? They already got stoned over Jesse's post. Just the fact that it's been so silent makes me feel like they're just trying to let it blow over so they could announce some 'final show' at the end of the year. I'd like to think that's not the case but...

No, I totally get what you meant. My response likely didn't read in the context I meant to say it in. If they are done, much like any artist I would also expect them to announce that. When it comes to Brand New, and how things have played out for them over the past few months, I wouldn't be surprised if they go out with radio silence.

We don't really know the situation though. They might still all be friends, but feel Brand New is over. If that was the case, I think putting out a statement would be difficult. What's for certain is that Brand New's "2018" as it was, is not happening. We at least know that.

best case scenario is there's silence because they literally arent a band anymore. but there should still be a statement if thats the case. worst case scenario is they're taking the wait and see how the climate is before their 2018 plans. since it seems festival dates were already cancelled, im betting they arent a band.

Lol exactly with the communication, would people really be shocked if they just faded into oblivion without a word?

I dunno. Should there be? I don't want to say "Jesse" is Brand New, but they're not going to kick him out, are they? His last statement was possibly all he might write about the subject, and they can't really as a band make a statement without acknowledging that properly. For that reason they might just fade away without proper comment.

I definitely think them not being a band is a stronger possibility than people suggest. And I hope that very much is the case.

if any of the rest of them want a career in music going forward it would be very smart to give closure to this whole thing, saying they're stepping away from the band because of jesse's actions and so forth. but maybe they just want to live quiet lives away from music.

I think they already were doing that. Science Fiction and their plans for 2018 were for their fans. Now that the demand and support is gone (for the most part), they likely have no motivation to start over. I would guess the likely bet is a few goodbye shows on the east coast at the end of the year, if anything.

    Die rad.

Do you guys think atleast 80% of the people who would have went to a BN show 6 months ago, would still go to a BN show in 2018?

you underestimate how many people who go to brand new shows have no idea about any of this. a lot of people dont keep up with music. especially people who were into brand new 10-15 years ago and still go out to shows

I saw them on their last tour, i've seen them many times before that. Where I haven't decided on whether or not I feel comfortable listening to SciFi again yet, I don't believe I will go to another show with how things have played out. The band said nothing, and Jesse just talked about himself. None of it sits right with me and thinking about letting the band go out with a huge cash grab of goodbye shows doesn't help.

yeah i agree that a large chunk of their fan base has no idea any of this even happened.

If this thread is someone's only interaction with Brand New fans, 80% would be surprising. I've seen enough everywhere else on the internet to know 80% wouldn't be the least bit surprising sadly

I find that surprising....I mean I don't know many fans of the band so I guess my perceptions based on social media which is where it's the center of conversation for the band

this band has a lot of fans who aren't "online" all the time. I personally know a lot of people who like them but don't read Facebook or twitter at all

I've been lurking here on and off but mostly just absorbing the conversation.
I would not attend a Brand New show because they do not deserve (more of) my money.
That said, outside of this forum it is absolutely clear a tour would still be well supported by the majority of Brand New fans. Any protesters would be significantly outnumbered. It would make bank.
Gladly I can't imagine Brand New would consider it worth the additional exposure and criticisms.

This is true, but in the context of the types of fans that actually attend Brand New shows, I find it really hard to believe that they aren't the stereotypical "glued to the screen for all things BN" fan. Tickets sold out within seconds every time, so you basically had to be a devout follower or buy from a scalper if you wanted to see them play.

FWIW here in Chicago, the band has virtually disappeared from our scene's dictionary. The same people who used to worship them and play their music at Emo/Pop-Punk nights has silently blacklisted them. It's kind of surreal actually. We just... don't talk about them now. I think it's because of how emotional everything is and everyone's afraid to talk about it, because not everyone feels the same. Or maybe a lot of us do feel the same, and it's easier to avoid thinking about it than to confront how betrayed we feel.

Listening to Science Fiction (and Brand New) for the first time since all of this stuff happened. Was having a shitty day and gravitated to it for some reason. Every time he sounds melodramatic or triumphant ("don't lose hope my son, this is the last one") I get this ugly pit in my stomach.

Tons and tons of casual fans come out to their shows. I know this first and second hand. I mean that's why they sell out so fast, because it's not just die hards

I’m in Chicago and heard sic transit like 3 weeks ago at a bar. I’m willing to bet if they played Aargon or wherever again it would still be packed.

    So disgusting.
I have dreams of all of us swarming that site and trying to take it over for the sake of good vs. evil, but then I realize that their numbers vastly out weigh ours and it would all be for nothing in the end.
