    Maybe so, maybe not.

Oh man...remedy that as soon as you possibly can. I have been thoroughly blown away every time I have seen them.

If you're looking for something that is true to the Dead DNA, then Dead & Company, Lesh and Friends, etc. are that. I feel like JRAD is a different beast entirely. They take the Dead's music but transport it to places where it feels like something entirely different, particularly in terms of pure shred, speed, and big, sustained peaks. Metzger and Hamilton are both crazy talented guitarists. If I'm seeing a band play the Dead's music, I'm taking JRAD personally.

My Whole Life is Thunder Prestigious

I was at a thrift store in London and found a mint first pressing of Live/Dead for 30 pounds, and my girlfriend was very confused as to why I was straight up running to the cash register

  4. The two cuts I can't stop listening to lately

I love this song. Maybe the best hitchhiking song? Fight me about it idk.

Lotta poor man make a five dollar bill
Will keep him happy all the time
Some other fellow's making nothing at all
And you can hear him cry

Lotta poor man got the Cumberland Blues
    He can't win for losing
Lotta poor man got to walk the line
Just to pay his union dues

This one just sounds so great back when they could still hit those high notes and harmonies.

  6. Man, what must it have been like to think you're going to a normal dead show in February 77, expecting maybe some Other One or some Playin and then you get the very first Terrapin Station beamed directly at you. Must have been absolutely wild.

Apparently Mayer sat in with JRAD the other day, gonna have to check that set out for sure

  8. The Annotated "Touch of Grey"

Even this is bound to pass
Not the first, you're not the last
    Fortune smiles then turns away
    but it's okay
When it goes from bad to worse
Not the last, you're not the first
    Today's tomorrow yesterday
    So what's to say?
    I will get by
    I will get by
    I will survive
    It's a lesson to me
The Ables, the Bakers and C's
The ABC's of the fast ball curve
Trying not to lose your nerve

  9. Tonight!!!!!!!! Last night's set list looks dope as hell, too bad no eyes and stuff tonight because of it but I'm sure tonight will kick just as much ass

  10. The "Wheel>Stay>Reggae Wheel" they've been doing is genius and the best innovation on dead music since Jerry died

  11. Also Oteill doing Fire and that whole He's Gone thing they do sooo good

  17. If anyone can find a download of the 30 trips boxset they put out a couple years ago, i highly recommend it. I think I got it off what.cd when it came out but I also think I remember there being a google drive of it...i'll see if i can find it. 1 full show from each year. All great. The '67 show (11/10) has my favorite Viola Lee (one of my fav songs) and the '73 show (11/14) has my favorite second set 'sandwich:' Truckin>TOO>Big River>TOO>Eyes>TOO>Wharf Rat. Most of them are on the archive, but few are as good quality as they are in the boxset.

BTW, if you're looking for shows on the archive, another protip: look for soundboards compiled by Charlie Miller, he's the best at it. There's a few other good ones whose names escape me as well.

  19. Listening to the Watkins Glen soundcheck show & googling about the lyrics to my namesake song and came across this which I think I've talked about in a less elegant way in this thread but Ryan Adams nails it in a way that extrapolates really well across the whole catalog:

"They were painting these unbelievable pictures. It felt like they were creating an actual geographic location in the music — I could feel the dense moisture in the air around this dock, and the guitar almost sounds like a tugboat moaning. What I felt was like the way people get into the world of Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter. "Wharf Rat" made San Francisco feel like some beautiful, otherworldly place. Not everyone can do that — I'm not sure even Dylan's local color was as strong as what Hunter and Garcia and Weir were creating at their peak. It's some kind of half-dream place that I visit when I decide to let my mind go there."
