I don’t think he was being a dick. Just playful.

Not directed at you but i think it’s funny that SW fans are so desperate for concrete “canon” information. I am too at times but at some point I think we need to realize that its important to just interpret things for ourselves and use our imagination. That’s like half of the fun. Even if it’s ridiculous it’s something unique we can bring to Star Wars. But we want answers. We want everything to make sense. People are so obsessed with facts and knowledge for a fictional universe. Obsessed with the symbols rather than what the symbols are trying to convey.

My interpretation is that luke trained Leia after ROTJ (which I think is in canon) but just to be able to access it and feel it better (like Luke’s lesson with Rey). In leias book she uses the force in a life or death situation. People tend to gain extraordinary power in response to a need. She used the force to bubble herself from space and push (not fly) to the ship.

It's weird how Star Wars fans will bend over backwards to defend plotholes in the Prequels, but anything in the new films that requires the tiniest bit of imagination to explain they can't handle.

It’s only natural for franchise with such a huge and devotional fan base to get questions about the latest film. There are people that go to Star Wars conventions to brag about how many weapons, ships, aliens races, etc. they can name.

I seem to remember Han and leia in empire strikes back hanging out in the mouth of a space worm in open space and not dying or even catching a chill. And leia being able to hear luke and sense and find him using the force. So neither of those things need explanation because it's already canon that leia can use the force and survive being in space. Also, it's a movie.

Of course some things can’t be explained or don’t need to be explained but, as we all know, Star Wars has fans that like to know every detail about the franchise.

It’s all fun and games to talk about every little detail of the movie until someone has a question about something not making sense to them. Then it’s uncalled for.

No, its uncalled for to attack the creators of the film and tell them they ruined Star Wars when there's something you don't understand

Yeah definitely. There are people on both sides (of any big argument) that are irrational. I agree there are a lot who refuse to admit any fault with the movie and say that those who hate it don’t understand it and all that stuff. I’m not a fan of those ppl either.

But there are, from my perspective, a larger number of extremists on the “don’t like it” side who are nitpicking every inconsistency with reality and using it as ammo to say the movie is “objectively” awful, and ruined Star Wars, etc.

In regards to the guy talking to rian I don’t think he’s being irrational or uncalled for. That’s fine. As is rian for just being playful. He doesn’t need to give an in depth serious answer for everything.

If you can point out where the person on Twitter was attacking Ryan then I’ll agrre. Or are we just going to label any sort of question that’s not favored as “attacking”?

I agree. I would put the fan on Twitter in the section of a fan just asking a genuine question. For all we know, that person may have just watched the film or doesn’t go to a forum where the same question has been discussed. The fan wasn’t condescending or rude. Rian has previously answered questions so it doesn’t seem to bother him to talk about his work. I just think he could have at least given a sentence or two of what he personally thinks or reference other force users being in space instead of a “because when is a badass mothafucka”. It just comes off as him making a joke over a fan’s question and in that case it would have been better to just not respond to the question.

    “The greatest teacher, failure is”

Yes but just because he answered a couple questions and doesnt mind talking about his work doesnt mean hes responsible for giving every single fan with a question a in depth answer. It really bothers me people hate Rian who is willing to do stuff like this because he loves Star Wars and the fans so much.

And that was like in the middle the night

I mean in any case saying he "ruined" Star Wars is ridiculous. I dont even think the prequels ruined Star Wars, personally. Because people still love them and watch them. For those fans though Im assuming because TLJ subverted their archetypical hero in Luke, how we perceive the Jedi, what the force even is, and what you can do with it. Which I get. Thats a lot lol Even Mark hated the way Luke was written.

But imo the "ruining"(in their line of thinking) of Luke if anything is on JJ. Rian has said that when writing for Luke above all he needed to give him a good reason that he was on this island and didnt just "give up". I personally think Luke was handled absolutely brilliantly.

The way some of these fans are reacting reminds me of what would happen when you tell somebody that their religion isnt truth or fact. Not even willing to look into the history or ask questions. Just blind belief that you take as dogma. Saying the Jedi were "romanticized and deified" and "to say that if the Jedi dies the light dies is vanity" coming from Luke's mouth would be like Jesus saying that there may not be a God or something to them. Luke even calls the Jedi a religion I think which might be the first time that word is used in the movies?

I don’t hate or dislike him.

One of the main things I like about him is that he communicates with fans and that’s one of the reasons I expected more of an answer than “because she is a badass muthafucka”

If I remember correctly, Tarkin refers to Obi-Wan as the last of Vader’s religion in IV.

He doesn't owe an answer at all. And besides, being badass is pretty much all the explanation you need for any force power. I don't think it was rude at all

Never been a big fan of this series though I can respect the original three but despite that and not exactly being on board with The Force Awakens I rather enjoyed this. Mostly on par with Rogue One which I enjoyed as well.
