sunburnt is freakin incredible and makes me wonder what the next underoath record would have been like. I would be fine with this type of sound with Aaron acting more like a second singer and spencer taking over all main parts

actually unsound was fantastic too, just do this. i forgot how incredible those songs were.. god damn. What a band. I wish I would have gotten into sleepwave bc I love Spencers cleans. I just didn't think sleepwave was as musically interesting as UO

    I do not exist.

As someone who isn't a big fan of Nine Inch Nails or Radiohead, you can probably imagine why I didn't connect with it.

It will be fascinating to see how Spencer & Aaron work together for this and also the direction they take their sound. I've already said before but I'm hoping for some post-rock vibes. I'm not sure that's what we'll get - they could literally do anything. It's going to be interesting.

Listen to "The Wolf" by them again, if it's been a while! I remember getting so stoked to hear his screams on that track, haha. "Hold My Head" was my #2 after that one

The wolf has one of Spencer’s best choruses across any project

Agreed! It was interesting throughout the album to hear him personally dig into his emotions through descript, instead of the abstract he uses a lot in Underoath.

Paper Lung sounds nu-rock to me and I have a feeling it was intentional. It’s the only song I’ve actually listened to.

Funny I came to the thread to be annoyed about Underoath really milking the rebirth/return and booking a bunch of festivals instead of actually making new music, and come to find out actually have a new album coming soon. Kudos Underoath, glad to be wrong!

People calling some of the sounds on Disambiguation more nu metal makes sense, but I really think it was meant to be more a grunge and industrial influence paired with their overall sound. Grunge and industrial directly influenced the nu metal era so I guess it's not a stretch.

With the likelihood of a summer release, i’m glad they are not announcing it right now. It sucks when a band announces an album and releases a song 4 - 5 months in advance. 2 months is my preference.

I mean they could play those two albums for the rest of my time on earth and I would always be stoked to go

I only said that Paper Lungs sounds like nu-rock, not the entire album.

I think people (likely younger) unfamiliar with grunge and industrial are going to hear some of that album and think back to nu metal. I kind of did a step back when I saw it in here. Given the band's age, I definitely think they were going for more of the NIN and some grunge influences though.

We reach for the longest shadow

I just listened to Disambiguation and LITSOS back to back, and I got to say, I think I would take those two over DTGL and TOCS. I have more nostalgia for the earlier ones, but those two later ones hold up well. I didn't initially give Disambiguation a fair shake, but I am down with that album now.

What the fuck is "nu rock" and nothing on Disambiguation sounds like nu metal. Pretty stright up metalcore with some atmospheric/industrial tendencies

    This is nu-rock.

nu rock is another name for post-grunge for sounding similar to nu metal without the metal feel and the elements of hip-hop. Although post-grunge isn't commonly known as nu rock, many believe that if you had to call any kind of music 'nu rock', it would have to be post-grunge more than anything.
