Had Grimm's Sumi Cacao the other day, one of the best stouts I've tried.

Haha thanks, I definitely think it helped that I was pregnant for most of last year, so we didn't really drink any of it (my husband would have a few but didn't open anything rare without me - he's a keeper).

I don't necessarily think it's about preferring one or the other but more of getting to taste the differences and how the flavor profile changes over time. That said we've acquired a ton of verticals that at this point we'll never have the time for... plus we pull whatever we feel like drinking at the time regardless.

While researching Chicago breweries with my lady (we want to go to more of them in 2018) we found that Metropolitan is a block from my band space.

This is both good and bad.

I need to make it out to their space...they might be the most underrated brewery in the city because their stuff is always quality, not too flashy, and Dovetail has been getting all the lager praise over the last couple years. The Javatron they have on tap there now sounds like straight fire.

Yeah, my thing is that I am not a big German beer fan, let alone lagers or pilsners. I am very excited to try their Javatron though. I haven't cared for much of Dovetail's stuf for that reason, but I usually hit up Begyle since it's next door.

Totally get the style thing. I love German-style lagers so Dovetail and Metropolitan scratch that itch pretty well...I wish Dovetail bottled their stuff since I only make it out there 1-3 times a year because I'm in the burbs now. Begyle doesn't do too much for me but that's likely just based on the saturation of the Chicago market. Flannel Pajamas is pretty good, but other than that they don't really do anything that stands out to me, IMO.

Living across the street from Une Annee/Hubbard's Cave has put some dents in my wallet and made me more of a fan of sour beer.

yes yes yes, do this. Especially if you're into IPAs. Orchid Island is about an hour north in Vero Beach and has solid beers and solid food. Small little spot across from the beach.

Got into Atlanta yesterday and already tried a lot of local beers! Big fan of the stuff I tried at 3 taverns.

Hey! quoting this message a month later to ask if you have any opinions about restaurants in the Church Hill area for breakfast or lunch! most likely going to go to The Answer for dinner.

I'd go to Sub Rosa for pastries and coffee. Proper Pie Co can be a nice place to grab a quick lunch option, they serve delicious savory pies. Alamo BBQ is there for lunch. There's also Hill Cafe for more normal lunch fare, Station 2 for burgers.

One last thing, sorry! Is it safe to walk to The Answer from Barrel Thief? It looks like The Answer might be on a highway but I can't tell.

I got a blueberry and vanilla stout. It's very nice. The one I got for my sister might disappear...

Is your band space within a 5 min radius of every cool beer event or bar in the city? You’ve been on a roll latelj
