Ok, third and final review of this week!
@Sheaver10 gave me the album Caracara- Summer Megalith

Fun Fact! A Caracara is a falcon-like bird of prey.

This is an album that demands multiple listens because there is a ton going on: horns, strings, keys and more!
At it's core, it is an indie/emo record but there is so much more. I am going to steal a line from Pitchfork's review that sums it up perfectly: "...they are not a band that has mastered a single, fully formed aesthetic". This is the biggest weakness with this record in my opinion in that I want to know who Caracara is?

The album is produced by Modern Baseball front man Jacob Edwald and is released by Sorority Noise front man Cameron Boucher's Flower Girl Records. I find this funny because I had the same issue with Sorority Noise's Joy Departed and that each song was so different I couldn't tell what sound the band was going for. I guess that is the issue with being an audiophile in that you listen to so much music you can pick apart the influences and it becomes an almost negative thought. When influences are done well (this album, Joy Departed, etc), it works, while on the other hand, blatantly stealing from them is another story. This album is a must listen for anyone who likes any of the current wave of emo bands.

As I said before, this is an album that requires multiple listens as you will hear so many things you didn't hear the first time and appreciate it so much more.

I can't really say I have a favorite track because they are all good and this is an album that will get rotated in very frequently.
    8/10
    Thanks @Sheaver10

It just seems very out of place and doesn't seem to flow with the overall tone of the record. It's just my opinion though and the only negative.

    So here's my thoughts on my first recommendation of round 5 from @KidLightning;

    Restorations - LP3 (2014)

Restorations are a band I've heard mentioned before but never actually gotten round to listening too, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect but this is right up my street. This is best described as early 2000's emo with intricate guitar work, great use of the quiet/loud dynamic and layered song's that build to giant choruses. I also really like the singers voice, it sounds weathered and reminds me a little of Brian Fallon. The standout song for me were Separate Songs (head and shoulders the best thing on the album), Tiny Prayers and All My Home (which features one of my favourite lyrics on the album, "spent far too much time this year, scouring old photo books"). I'd recommend you check this out if your a fan of bands like The Gaslight Anthem, The Hold Steady and The Menzingers. It also reminds me of Spanish Love Songs, another fantastic band I've been listening to a lot recently with similar heartfelt vocals. Cheers again for the rec @KidLightning, you pretty much nailed this one!

And what a way you won me over

Right, my review for @Nate_Johnson rec: The Contortionist - Clairvoyant

After being given this album to listen to I was expecting something preeety heavy (especially as @Nate_Johnson had asked me what the heaviest thing I had listened to, just before giving me this rec). What I can say is that it is a heavy album, but not at all what I expected.

One of the most interesting things about the album is the use of layers, particularly where there are only a couple of instruments playing at a time. This particularly works well on the opening song Monochrome (Passive), which opens with just a single guitar chord, and a sparse drum pattern. This is also very effective on the intro to Reimagined, which is just a simple drum beat and bass guitar.

I also really enjoyed the drumming on the album. It is quite technical in places and really adds to the flow, particularly when there are changing time signatures.

I can’t say I listen to an awful lot of heavier music, but I would possibly say there were elements of bands such as Architects in places, and also some aspects of between the buried and me. What may set this band apart however, is that the vocals are all sung, rather than screamed, which I thought added a nice dynamic against some of the heavier aspects of the music.

Overall I would say I really enjoyed this album, particularly over the front half of it, and I can certainly see myself going back to it.

I would give this album an 8/10.

    Favourite songs: Reimagined, Clairvoyant

I’m really glad you enjoyed it. The vocalist is actually not the original vocalist and joined before writing their last album, Language. If you like him you should check out his other band Last Chance to Reason. They are within that progressive metal sound as well.

And what a way you won me over

Nice, yeah I will check them out. I particularly liked how he used his lower register, I just thought it was a nice change up from what you might expect.
