Andy's PGS videos are pretty much the only gear demos I watch ever. Dude can play, and actually demos stuff with songs/riffs/licks that make sense with the pedal in question instead of just mindlessly noodling his way through a pentatonic blues scale like 99% of the demo channels out there.

 

then you gotta start watching Knobs

 

Yea I prefer Knobs over any of the other channels.

 

on second though maybe not because shit gets expensive fast.

 

I wouldn't mind the Anderton's so much if they all didn't fucking talk so much. They seem like likeable people and they have some good jam sessions in their demos but the amount of talking kinda ruins it.

 

Looking into octave pedals. Can't decide between a POG or an Earthquaker Rainbow Machine. Anyone have experience with either or both?

EDIT: Watched some Rainbow Machine demos, and don't think it's for me. Are there any other good polyphonic octave pedals out there besides the POG?

I finally got to plug in my Friday Club Fuzwami today. What a box of stupid that is. It's great to just sit and mess around with, but whether I'll ever find a practical application for it is beyond me.

Looked it up, and it's pretty much what I want for a poly octave. Want to try it before I buy it.

 

I just bought the Pog nano a few weeks ago. I enjoy it a lot. It’s as simple as can be which is perfect for what I need.

 

Really debating dropping 4 figures on a Line 6 Helix. I like my POD500X but still don't think it feels natural enough. Anyone played with the Helix? Maybe save my dough and go all in on a Kempler or AxeFX.

 

I have never regretted spending that little extra on my equipment. You more often than not get what you pay for, this is especially true when it comes to key components of your signal chain.

 

That was my thought. I'd rather sell my POD and drop three or four times that on a Helix or other brand.

I'm not playing with any bands now so it's one of those things I'd like to do but I may never really use outside of my home recordings (so, the members comps because I rarely write on my own). It's hard to throw that much money at something that's just a personal hobby.

 

Oh then just spend a 100 bucks on amplitude and a like 60 on a nice tube pre amp.

Feel free to blow the rest on boutique pedals.

 

The poor quality of those tones is what prompted my interest in the POD.

 

oh really? I think they're pretty damn decent with a little post production. and esp. that tube pre-amp in front of it.

It was most likely because I ran AmpliTube on my phone. It sounded even worse when I pre-amped with my Peavey Triple X. How was the Kemper as far as being easy to fine tune - adjust your eq/amp/cab sim or did your producer have some good tones already dialed in for you?

 

the latter. It was re-amped by our mixer remotely, but I talked to them about it because just like you I was interested in the hardware and they said they hadn't used anything else ever since they had the Kemper, they can create any tone they want.

I use the Amplitube that plugs into Logic. Here's an example of the sounds I'm getting, mind you some of that is me not being very great at mixing yet.

YMMV vary though because these guys are Logic wizards.

 

this is a super noob question i've been hanging on a while since i haven't played recently, but since you guys are on the topic, any ideas why amplitude sounds different when used as a plug-in (GarageBand) as opposed to just using the stand-alone app on a MacBook? i was hoping to record with it but it sounds both a little muffled and just different tonally; is there a setting or effect i should change within GarageBand?

 

can you get us a screenshot of your channel strip?

 

fwiw it sounds the exact same for me no matter how I'm using it.
