Right. But who says that HAS to stick. I know more than likely it'll be a trilogy, but we can dream right.

I really liked that element and how it's nuanced, I get why people want Luke Skywalker to be perfect and never a dick but that isn't realistic

This has also been my theory of the week - tweeted it a few days ago thinking how easily it seems they could stretch this out to a finale of Episode X. We spent so much of the first two films getting reacquainted with old faces, it would be perfectly in line with the "let the past die" mantra to give us two whole films fleshing out the new characters even more and giving them greater weight on their own rather than potentially leaving them feeling like vehicles for nostalgia. Not that I think they are, I love the new characters, but so much of it (particularly in TFA) felt like new ways to get old faces on screen.

I'm on board with an Episode X being part of this saga but I fully expect this storyline to end after IX

I like to think of Holdo as Rian Johnson and SOME of these Star Wars fans as Poe. Poe believes he should be the leader of the Rebellion just like Star Wars fans believe their head-cannon should be the way Star Wars should go despite the fact theyve probably never created anything in their life and no idea how hard it is to be an artist/director/writer/film-maker/leader.

Holdo is a true leader who doesnt need to indulge every opinion of the fans and tells the fans to "get off my bridge", especially when no matter what he does they are going to call him a "traitor and a coward", despite not knowing where Rians mind is at.

Then they try and throw a mutiny and get petitions to say this isnt Star Wars.

In the end Rian, like Holdo did something beautiful which is sacrifice himself, his time, how hes perceived as a film-maker by taking chances, not letting fans dictate his creative decisions and went light-speed into the Supremacy, and destroying a lot of we thought about Star Wars. Luke, the Jedi, The Force, Snoke, Reys parents, etc... To make way for a new generation of Star Wars to survive.

Although now Poe's the leader so idk how that fits in. I think Im running out of things to say on this thread

One could argue JJ would align more with the fans view. And he is doing 9. So “Poe” is in charge there.

Dont we know 100% that it will be completely new?

And now JJ is now more inspired to be a better/more creative filmmaker because of Rian just like Poe learned how to be a better leader like Holdo and know when to run away like she did.

That is a good point. Kylo still worships Vader (that was kind of missing from this film though) but I'm sure that would be changed if Vader were still alive to give him even more mixed feelings.

I will say, a lot of the vitriol towards this film has only made me love it more. Gets me talking about it, which gets me excited about the stuff I love, but it's also the childish side of me that just wants to "stick it to these angry nerds."

Going for round 2 tomorrow morning, hoping for a quiet theater this go-round so I can pay more attention.

Im forgetting the reason why Kylo revered Vader so much in TFA.

does Kylo not even understand that hes more powerful than Vader? he and Snoke have powers that make Vader look like a child.

Good point with the Kylo worshipping Vader. As far as addressing it in TLJ, we have to keep in mind that most of this happens within the span of a day or 2. I dont think it was necessary.

Although fuck. He did kind of finsih what Vader started in that he overthrew the Supreme Leader and took over power liek he believed Vader shouldve done. interesting.

I mean thats the whole dynamic of a legend. Legends are put on pedestals, when they probably shouldnt. And it was his grand-daddy who Snoke probably conditioned him to think was this demigod.

Do we remember / know why Kylo revers Vader though from a political perspective?

I just know the "to finish what you started"

    what all does that mean?

  21. Dodger

    “The greatest teacher, failure is”

Nah I think that hasnt been addressed. We dont know even know when he found out he was Vaders kid. in Bloodline The galaxy didnt know Leia was Vaders daughter. Han and Leia never told him and were waiting to tell him, but we dont know if Luke told him, or Snoke told him.
As far as political persepctive I dont think we have anything and thats something I could use more of going forward in general. The political motivations/perspectives of this whole trilogy are a little thin. TFA didnt address it much at all and TLJ was too short of a time span to address it

I was wondering if my memory just didnt serve me as it has been a while since Ive seen TFA.

So tell me something awesome Supporter

While Kylo is more powerful force-wise, I feel like Vader was an immensely better leader (and more widely respected by his subordinates) than Kylo is, and that could be a big part of it. Vader had intangibles that Kylo just doesn't have at this point in time. (Sorry to make it sound like a college scouting report or something haha)
