Not that a fantasy needs to be defended but I think its easy to at least be able to convince yourself that those bombs were pushed out of those ships with the way they were shown and not just dropped. W/e

we're all a bunch of weirdos on a quest to belong Prestigious

Or they could have been magnetic.. also the whole “political platform”. Shouldn’t “war profiteering is bad” be something everyone agrees on?

We thought “nazis are bad” was something everyone agreed on. We were wrong.

Yeah exactly. I feel like episode 9 is going to have to be 4 hours long lol. TLJ definitely feels like a restart, but now they have to close it out. A lot of loose ends to tie.

I think it’s more of a execution/how it’s done kind of thing. I thought it was a little “on-the-nose” to borrow Kristian harloffs from Colliders words. Not a lot of subtlety but considering that i believe Canto Bight was Rian Johnson’s earth i think it fit. In the end I’m okay with it. it’s important to use your platform for these types of things especially considering kids are watching.

What’s weird is I think there aren’t a lot of loose ends to tie. Finns no longer running. Poe’s the leader. Rey chose the light. Kylo chose the dark. Luke’s story is set. Rey’s parents revealed. Snoke is dead. Phasmas probably dead.

That’s what’s making this feel like the start of something new and why I have no idea where they are going to go. I agree though this movie could be long. I’d be surprised and disappointed if it was much shorter than TLJ.

I’ll second that notion that TLJ needed more Rey screentime.

You were totally right btw! I even heard the sound cue at the very beginning of that scene.

Yeah, guess I worded that wrong. Not necessarily loose ends to tie, since like you said, a lot of them were tied in TLJ, but more or less, I just feel like since its going to be the end of the "Skywalker" saga, we just need some big send off.

If I could just forget it

This feels like the last movie of another trilogy.

Agree with both of these. It feels like there isnt enough to have just one one more story without it being 4 hours long. I know this isnt happening, but what if Lucasfilm likes this subverting expectations theme and ends 9 with the reveal that the story isnt over and there will be another movie in this particular saga with this cast.

First monday gross of $21 million. Lower than TFA's $40 million, but, oddly, it's lower than Rogue One too which had $32 million. Still good, though.

All the schools in my area are still in session. Not on Christmas break until the end of the week.

One thing that does bum me out about this new trilogy is how separated the 3 new leads have been. I gave a sort of sad laugh when Poe introduces himself to Rey at the end because I was thinking "Have these two really not met yet?" Not that everything has to be like the OT, but Han, Luke, and Leia felt like a family unit. These are 3 people who I care about individually but don't have that unity, which is fine I guess but a little sad.

615 tonight, second viewing. Was going to use MoviePass but could not get to the theater until closer to showtime, and it's practically sold out, so just had to buy it online. Such a bummer my area got rid of eticketing.

I stated this earlier in the thread, but every character in the entire series is walking on the ships as opposed to just floating around. Without thinking too hard about it, I believe you can just assume that the ships (especially the gigantic ones) have some sort of gravitational pull.

Agreed with this. I'm hoping our three main characters get some more time together in the next movie.

I could see that happening. Who says it has to be a trilogy right??? TLJ proved there's no rules or set guidelines.

I've been reading a bunch of articles about the meanings of certain scenes in this film. I enjoyed it the first time through, but am really looking forward to my second time this weekend.

Another theme I've been thinking about for this film is the dangers of hero worship. Obviously Rey is disappointed in Luke, but there's also Rose who idolizes Finn and is immediately disappointed. Poe also has a certain image of Holdo before he meets her (he mentions some battle that she is famous for if I recall) that gets flipped on it's head too. And for Kylo it's both Luke and Snoke who he feels betrayed by.

Agree and once again love how many themes are interwoven into EACH of the separate journeys. Also I love Poe's reaction all throughout that scene when shes saying "its clear who the next leader should be" and he perks up like "oh shit its me, right" then Holdo is announced and gets all bummed. Oscar really nailed that scene.
