Surprised nobody has complained about lack of back story for this.

I liked it a lot but I certainly don’t think it topped TFA.

Crime, penetration, more crime, and then more penetration. It goes back and forth until it ends at some point.

Don't know if it's been talked about - but I went and saw this again and watched TFA afterwards today. I don't believe Rey's parents are no body because the ship seen flying away from her as a child yelling,"come back!" is a Resistance transport vehicle - same ones as in The Last Jedi.

  10. Rian has made it clear he believes they’re nobodies. I hope JJ doesn’t change that. It’s perfect.

Oh I agree that they should be nobodies. My fiance thinks Rey is the daughter of Holdo - which doesn't make any sense to me.

At that point in time wouldn’t it just be a republic ship? The resistance wouldn’t have existed yet. My guess is a lot of people had access to those ships at that point

My story IX idea. Inspired a lot by War for the Planet of the Apes if I'm being honest. Here it is:

We jump roughly 3-4 years in the future. The resistance is mounting a covert mission to capture arms dealers contracted by the First Order. Brief blaster battle ensues, our group of resistance fighters (led by Finn, Poe & Rose) successfully hijack a ship carrying new tie defenders (fighters that are desperately needed by the growing, but still minuscule Resistance).

Cut to a furious General Hux, who upon hearing the news of this hijacking begins to berate Kylo Ren for the failure, stating that he is wasting resources chasing Jedi fugitive, Rey. Ren uses the force to remind Hux who holds the power. Kylo exits and instructs Hux that he'll simply have to be more resourceful and exits the room. After he exits, Hux comms another general to inform them it's time to move forward with their planned coup (stealing this from @Anthony_ love this idea, it's the natural progression of their relationship).

Finn, Poe, & Rose return to the secret resistance base with the stolen fighters. At the base we see Rey visiting Leia's grave and hanging a necklace with Anakin/Luke's kyber crystal attached. Rey joins the rest of the group for a mission debrief. During the debrief they come to the realization that while these small operations have helped them stay afloat, they need a larger victory to convince the galaxy their fight is worth joining. They decide to attack a high profile First Order prison that doubles as a labor camp for the construction of weapons (the mission gets them a recruiting opportunity and weapons).

Kylo Ren meets with the Knights of Ren (his personal enforcers and operatives charged with keeping the galaxy in line). Kylo is angry that his fellow Knights have failed to help him identify the resistance and more importantly, Rey. He singles one out in particular, who then confronts Kylo. Kylo quickly kills him and orders the remaining Knights to go to the site of the resistance highjacking in search for answers.

Rey, Finn, Poe, and Rose are gearing up for their attack on the first order prison and leave via the their respective ships. As they are leaving Rey can feel Kylo seeking her out with the force. She resists and carries on. Meanwhile, the Knights of Ren are at the sight of our opening skirmish, our head Knight (let's call him Starkiller) uncovers a clue that leads him the secret resistance base. When arrives at the base, he wrecks shit and learns the rebel plan of attack and informs Kylo of their plans. Kylo orders Hux to send part of the fleet to the prison and ambush the resistance.

The resistance begin their attack on the prison, with Rey, Finn and Rose leading from the ground and Poe in the air. It's going well and they begin to free prisoners and make their escape with more first order ships. As she is about to leave, Rey feels something in the force behind one of the prison doors. She opens it to find a single child using the force to try and open a vent above her. Seeing her self in the girl, Rey goes to save her. In her efforts, she is surrounded and captured by the Knights of Ren.

As the other resistance members attempt to escape, the First Order fleet arrives. We get a big dog fight, but soon they begin to pick apart the resistance fighters and their stolen ships. Finn and Rose escape, but Poe is shot down and crash lands far away from the prison. After being informed by Starkiller that Rey has been captured, Kylo arrives at the prison. He informs Rey that while searching for her with the force he has been finding other force sensitive children and enlisting the Knights of Ren to capture them.

Finn, Rose and the rest of the rebel survivors regroup. Finn tries to rally the remaining troops for a counter attack, but with their numbers so low and without Poe and Rey to lead and inspire, many of the group give up all hope. Finn & Rose decide to continue and go to rescue Rey and the other rebels taken prisoner. A stranded Poe comes across a decimated village where he meets up with some locals and rallies them to help him retake the prison. He manages to make contact with Finn and they devise a rescue plan.

Inside the prison we get a hopeful conversation with Rey and the force sensitive child about the legends of the force. Kylo enters the room with the Knights and Hux. Hux congratulates Ren on finally tracking down Rey, but then directs the Knights of Ren to subdue Kylo. He informs Kylo that he is no longer in command of the first order.

Finn, Rose, Poe and the villagers scout out the prison and get in position to attack. Meanwhile, Hux has Rey taken outside to be executed in the pouring rain in front of the rebel prisoners (who at this point have been forced into labor also). Inside the prison, Kylo uses all kinds of force chokes and what not to escape his shackles. Outside, as Starkiller is about to execute Rey, Kylo comes from behind and stabs him from behind with his lightsaber (the shot from TFA). Soon after a set of explosions go on outside and inside the prison as our rebels start their attack. The battle begins and Rey runs inside to go rescue the child. She is pursued by Kylo. They begin a lightsaber battle.

Elsewhere in the prison, the battle rages. Poe ends up killing Hux (who dies like a coward obviously). Finn dies jumping in front of a blaster for Rose (this time sacrificing himself to save what he loves) and the remainder of the Knights of Ren die too. Rey and Kylo continue to fight, but Kylo gets the better of Rey and goes to kill the child. Rey does not die immediately, but she clearly is in bad shape. He explains that after he plans to kill this and every other force sensitive child he imprisoned along with Rey so that after he dies there will be nobody left, dark side or light, to use the force. As he goes to kill the child, Rey uses all her power to strike one final blow to Kylo and save the child. Kylo dies in Rey's arms (REBELS tv show spoiler: similar to the way Obiwan holds a dying Maul in Rebels. I love that moment).

We end with a resistance celebration (as they've taken out the First Order leadership) and Rey training this young child.

    Fan fiction is tough haha.

Anakin’s mother was a literal slave, so it would be an actual nice, subtle full circle

It could set up the idea that a chosen one is both every generation, it depends on that person if they can fulfill the prophecy or not.

Most of my experience during this movie was spent trying to ignore the dude to my right. As soon at the JWorld2 trailer came on and he started clapping and shouting, “Yes!!! YES!!!” I knew I was in for a bumpy ride. During the movie I eventually turned to him and said, “hey do you think you could tone it down a bit?” He just looked at me and gave me the crazy eyes and I thought, “welp, I just suffer through this or dude’s gonna stab me.” So I sat there trying to ignore him literally sucking the butter off of every finger after smacking on his popcorn. It was truly awful and beyond distracting.

I was really interested in the context of that shot. Like why would she be running like that with a saber unless about to fight someone. I thought the FO order found them or something on arch to. Wonder if it was the third lesson. I imagine it will be a deleted scene

I forgot where I read this and this may have been posted but JJ has expressed that’s where he thought he was going to go with it as well.

Also I have to say I just finally watched the trailers to see if it was worth torturing myself for 2 months.

Totally was. So glad I didn’t watch any trailers. Even if I knew some of the stuff in there I didn’t know the context and made the first view of all those shots really special.

Doing this with Black Panther/Infinity War/any movie I know I’m sold on as well

  24. yes, I also strongly feel that watching trailers for stuff you're going to watch anyway is detrimental.

kinda ruined Blade Runner for me.
