Also I jsut love that JJ gets to finish the characters arcs and the story that he started. Especially with the reputation that he doesnt finish stories well and that he just rehashed A New Hope, I cant wait for him to prove people wrong.

    ...I hope

Some good chuckles as usual in th RLM review but, don’t agree with most of it.

Feelings about the Force Awakens aside, the RLM review of it may have had some points, but aligned itself way too hard with the complaints about diversity and lack of sexual content. It was a weird stance for a normally very on-point critic.

It's weird to me that different writers can just come in and change the direction of the story. I figured they would have had all three pretty well mapped out before hand.

    Just a friendly reminder

I was just actually going to say something similar. I think JJ Abrams has learned a lot from the criticisms of TFA and the risks taken in TLJ. I think Rian Johnson has put him in a good spot to by setting a different bar. My post-TLJ criticisms of TFA are partially a product of having just seen TLJ. I think Abrams can do something special if he pushes himself out of his comfort zone and I think he can do it. It's a fascinating experiment to have the writer/director of the first film of the trilogy write and direct the last film of the trilogy in reaction to the writer/director of the second film's choices.

And at least it's not (shudders) Colin Trevorrow.

    Agreed.

While I have not soured in this movie at all, after giving it a few days to just think about it, I’m fairly certain I would place this under TFA and the OT. The only OT film I may put it over his ROTJ.

I’m gonna probably see this tonight and let that help me clarify where it sits in that regard.

5th place sounds low to me, but it’s going up against the greats.

I'd watch the shit out of a Wes Anderson SW movie.

All this to say, if JJ can not rely too much on nostalgia and hitting similar plot points, I think 9 could be the best of this trilogy.

The representation point was one of the ones I was thinking of. Fortunately that’s not a major part of the review.

In my head, this movie sets it up so that no matter what, 9 can't really go too crazy in recreating the original trilogy, which is my only real JJ fear. I think he absolutely nailed the right level of nostalgia in the feel of the movie, and I wouldn't at all mind if a good bit of that creeps back in.

    RJ > JJ visually though.

I think he nailed the right amount for that particular movie. Going back to it so much in 9 would not sit as well with me.

I'm glad we got this super dark and visually stunning SW movie now I'm ready for JJ to blow everything to smithereens and give us some action packed 2 hour all hell breaks lose end to this trilogy.

    Alright.

    Challenge.

    You’re JJ.

You have to deliver a bullet point outline of the 9 plot to Kathy and bob.

    What is it ?

We reach for the longest shadow

Yeah, see TFA was the setup and introduction, TLJ was all about character development and getting you emotionally invested in the new guys, while clearing the old characters out of the way, so I want IX to be an all out action movie the entire time.

Fuck. this could literally go in any direction. Ill go with whats probably more likely at this point.

Snoke is Plaguis and he died but he transferred his life just like he did after Sheev killed him. This time his target is Broom Kid. He enters Broom kids body He decides to fuck the whole balance thing and go Sith. He becomes Darth Broom.

Kylo is gambling on Canto Bight one day, and betting on Fathier races when he sees broom kid use the force. He recruits him to be his apprentice.

    Idk. shit happens.

Darth Broom kills Kylo by slashing him into thousand different mini kylo chunks.

the movie ends with him sweeping Kylos remains in a dust pan

the only specific thing I want in IX is a well thought out and executed end to Leia's character/story. Whether it's on or off screen, and I think they will deliver that.

other than that, i just want a good action packed movie with great story and character moments. however that is done i iwll leave up to the folks who get paid more than i do. i don't even think i've spent enough time with TLJ yet to decide what i want in the next installment.
