Had to go to bed for this one. Bummed Portland couldn't hold on to the lead. Not sure what Golden State's plan was, but I bet they didn't leave Curry on Dame too often. I am sure there was an element of it, but Portland needs to have whoever Curry is guarding running off a bunch of screens and attacking Curry downhill with the ball. You don't want to injure someone, but you have to exploit a weakness. Defensively, you just have to hope for the best against him. He got hot and made Portland. Not much you can do there.

I know there has been a lot of praise for Lillard in here, but man he takes a lot of terrible shots. Is that normal for him? I haven't watched a ton of blazers games this year. He shot 18 threes though and made 5, and a lot of those are fading away off the dribble over a taller player.

I think in today's pace and space era, along with ball-dominating guards, you are going to have to live with some inefficiencies like that through some games. Remember, this is pretty easily the best era in the NBA for "point guards". While the definition of a point guard and positions for that matter have shifted a bit, the competition level is extremely high. It's like the back down era of the '90s where post talent was incredible. Pretty sure Hakeem, Kemp, Malone, the Admiral, etc. took some bad shots. Who else besides CJ and Dame is Portland going to run offense through? That team is operating at a really high level with a team that only has a couple options to initiate its offense. That is what is so great about them and their run. Their margin for error is extremely tiny. They are not in a position to tell either of those two guys to stop looking for shots. Even if it means taking some bad ones and sacrificing FG%. Those two getting going allows Aminu, Crabbe, Plumlee, etc. to flourish.

I understand that, and agree with most of it. It just seems to me that there were multiple times where I felt the blazers were clinging to a small lead and needed to come down and get a smart shot, and he'd pull a contested three early on the shot clock for no real reason.

I also feels its odd that he gets defended for playing that way, when guys like Westbrook and harden gets destroyed for it. I guess maybe it just comes down to Lillard being more likeable.

I don't know if this thread represents the nba community but I'm surprised by the dislike for Golden State here. I could get the Draymond hate, but they seem to play great team basketball and be pretty down to earth guys.

It has nothing to do with that at all, they're a far and away less talented team. They're gonna live and die by two guys doing that all game. All the other stuff is over-analyzing.

I guess this thread is randomly getting invaded by people who only watch the playoffs. Meh.

Someone in this thread said that it's "a matter of opinion" who the best shooter of all time is? Whilst ignoring stats/factual information?

    Sports hurt my soul.

Idk why i'm always the outlier in the sports threads, but I love the Warriors and Draymond.

When draymond blatantly curses out one of your players, has a dirty play against one and then gets in the refs faces for not calling fouls against other players you'll change your tune. Its different when they hardly play your team.

No need to be high and mighty about it, this is the "playoffs thread"

That's certainly true. I think my love for him comes from my disliking of Lebron, and him getting in lebrons head last year. Unfortunately my team will never know a 7 game series with the Warriors :(

Not being "high and mighty" just stating what is happening as opposed to having a lot of the same people who post during the season being the only posters. Different.

Its alright man, its alright. Not everyone can be the warriors /spurs/cavs, basically 1/3 that have a chance to get there.

Steph Curry is the first unanimous MVP in NBA history.

That's crazy, would've figured Jordan was at least once.

Lebron probably should have once or twice a few years ago too.

This might be even more shocking

Unless he's joking. I'm assuming he means, like second/third place votes.

There's absolutely an opinion component to it. How much weight is given to particular stats, especially shot volume and location, is something you can't have this conversation without considering. People tend to overvalue three point percentage while undervaluing or ignoring altogether the ability of a guy to finish in the paint.

Nash is one percentage point away from being a 40/50/90 shooter... over an eighteen year career. He might not fit the average fan's preconception, but he's the best non-Curry shooter ever.
